Plain clothe officers scanned the
men's faces and apparently were fa
miliar with them, for without asking
them questions separation was made,
Three patrol wagons, loaded with the
radicals, left for the fourth precinct
station and an overflow of half
dozen of the left wing group was
closely surrounded on the sidewalk
awaiting arrival of a fourth wagon.
The radicals offered no resistance.
Lender Known.
John Pace of Detroit has been the
acknowledged leader of the radical
wing which twice has attempted pick
eting of the White House. On the
first occasion he was arrested for
parading without a permit and dis
orderly conduct. He was sentenced
to MO fine or 40 days In Jail, and
itt out on $200 bond pending appeal.
He has yet to be tried on the second
arrest on similar charges.
; Whether he figured In today's ar
rests was not ascertained.
Those to be escorted out of town
were marched at t fairly fast pace
out Virginia avenue, southeast, and
along the latter toward the city
limits.

four desolate spots that had housed
the bonus army, an ecodus of sullen
veterans and hangerson took place
from Washington.

at the White Houwt to guard against
radlca! demonstrations. The officers

ised. In the early morning hours, num
bers of those who were forced to
fall back In front of tear gas attacks
by Fort Myer troops took to the high
ways for shelter elsewhere.
Members of the "B. B. P." who had
gone to a private estate, christened
Camp Bartlett, two miles from the
burned Anacostla camp, gathered to
gether their few belongings to depart
this forenoon. x
As the result of yesterday's hap
penings, in which one veteran was
killed and many police, veterans and
soldiers injured, some of the remain
ing bonus marchers were anything
but good tempered.
- Others, however, took the situa
tion In good nature.
Fall h Fatal For
Baseball Watcher
PORTLAND, Ore., July 39. (AP)
A fall from a high crane track from
which vantage spot he wns watching
the Portland -Mission baseball game
here, proved fatal for Alfred Staino,
19, last night. He died shortly after
being taken to a hospital.

FIRST FIRE SEEN
IN ROGUE FOREST
The first fire of consequence, and
It Is not a large one, was reported
today In the Rogue Hlcver national
forest, In the Lodge Pole region, be
tween Lodge Pole and the summit
of the Cascades.
The flames were traveling through
brush only and no damage was re
ported. Th eflre was described as
under "control this afternoon. H. B.
Rankin, supervisor of the forest, and
a crew of fighters were on the Job.
Origin of the blaze was unknown.
NEW YORK, July 29. (P) Thlrty-seven-year-old
Benny Leonard jas
gone a long way toward disproving
the adage that they never come back.
The former lightweight champion
today had won the 30th straight vic
tory of his comeback campaign, the
result of a clean-cut 10-round deci
sion over Billy Townsend of Van
couver last night.
Leonard, weighing Bl pounds, was
credited with eight rounds to two
for his 144-pound opponent.
