high school. Mr. Orr, a Junior at Oregon State college. Is now attending

To Outdoor Event
On Tuesday afternoon, July 10th,
Mrs. Carl Brommer opened her home
to the meeting of the Women's Mis
sionary society of the Presbyterian
church.
Following a brief business session
conducted by the president, Mrs, A.
J. Hanby, the women went out on
the lawn, where an open-air program
was held. Mrs. Maynard Putney, In
charge of the devotlonals, selected a
Kature "heme which was In keeping
with the out-of-door setting. Hymns
were sung, poetry read, scripture
read appropriate to honor Nature
and Nature'a God. Sentence prayers
closed the devotional period.
Mrs. Iverson who had charge of the
program asked each one of the twenty-five
women present to respond
with a eurrent event. Mrs. A. R.
Clement and Mrs. Iverson closed the
Informal discussion with a brief re
view and comparison of two books.

The Oleaner claaa of the First Bap
tist church met at the home of Mrs.
B. M. Wilson, Tuesday.
The president, Mrs. P. H. Dally,
who attended the northern Baptist
convention In San Francisco, told
about her trip and described the
floral emblem of welcome made with
plants and flowers In Golden Gate
Park, attracting the attention ot
paueraby. The center of the design
was an open bible, with the words
Mathew 83:11." Mra. Dally took this

The reception for Rev. A. O. Ben
nett and family at the Flrat M. E.
church on Friday night was "dif
ferent." A call had been sent out during
the week for all members of the
church and their families to bring
"covered dish and gather In the
recreation hall for an Informal sup
per and program. About 180 people
were seated In friendly fashion
around three long tables.
After the dellcloua meal was fin
ished, Mrs. F. W. Corltes, president
ot the Ladlea' Aid, apoke a few words
of welcome to Reverend and Mrs.
Bennett snd their sons, Oeorge and
Robert and announoed that . the
Epworth League and ths various cir
cles of the Aid would each present
some numbers for entertainment of
the honored guests.
The representatives of the Epworth
League were Misses Josephine and
Helen Power who played two lovely
piano duets, and Miss Mary Rose
berry, who gave two readings which
were greatly enjoyed.
Representing the Fidelity Circle,
Mrs. Oeorge Blgler told In negro dia
lect "What was the matter with
'Raatus" and Mrs. T. O. Heine, as
sisted by Robert Bennett gave a
humorous reading. Then little Phyl
lis Nellson gave two clever readlnga
In behalf of the PrlsclUa Circle. The
Prlsclllaa were represented also, by
a group of young girls from Mrs.
Whlllock's Sunday school clsss who
sang "America the Beautiful."
For the "Just Folks" Circle, the
Epworth Lesgue sextette sang "When
There's Love at Home," accompanlrd
at the piano by Mrs. E. C. Corn. They
also sang "Highways Are Happy
Waya" with ukelele accompaniment
by Mlaa Luella Corn, and the whole
audience sang or whistled with them.
At the close ot the program. Rev.
Bennett thanked the members and
friends for the friendly welcome and
told a number of humorous stories.
Mrs. Bennett spoks a few words
also and several of the newest mem
bers present were Introduced.
