dinner party Wednesday evening.
The first course was served at the
home of Mrs. Chester Hubbard, where
Miss Edwards was hostess. Guests
then continued to the nome of Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Reames, where Miss
Reames was hostess, and on to the
Burdett Dodges, where Miss Dodge
was hostess, and last at Valentine's
cafe for dessert. They were enter
tained at the cafe with orchestra
music, and continued from there to
the Edmlston home to complete the
evening with dancing.

While Visiting Here,
In honor of Miss Maxlne Tracy of
Chlco, Cal., who Is her house guest,
Miss Virginia Gregory entertained a
group of friends Wednesday evening.
A picnic dinner was served In Llthla
park, after which tennis was enjoy
ed, and swimming at the Twin
Plunges. .
Upon returning to Medford, bridge
was enjoyed at the Oreory residence
for the remainder of the evening.

Dr. and Mrs. A. D. McMurdo and
three sons of Heppner, Ore., w.ho
were week-end guests here of Mr. and
Mrs. E. H. Hedrlck, left Tuesday for
Del Monte, Cal., where Dr. McMurdo
will compete In the annual trapshoot.
They will also attend the Olympic
games before leaving California, and
will stop In Medford again en route
north to be guests of the Hedrlcks.
Mrs. McMurdo, a sister of Clifford
M. Slmms, formerly of this city, Is
known to many folk here. Mr. Slmms
while In Medford was associated with
the Jackson County bank.

day, July 13, at her home In Med
ford. The occasion was a farewell
dinner for Miss Dorothy Harding of
McLeod. who left for Los Angeles,
wftere she will attend the Olympic

Royal Neighbors
Have Fine Meeting
JACKSONVILLE. Ladles of the
Royal Neighbor lodge gave a card
party at their hall Tuesday afternoon.
Twenty-five ladles were present with
six tables In play. The prize for high
score at pinochle was won by Mrs.
Charley Adams of Medford. High
score at bridge by Mrs. Arthur Davles,
and the traveling prize at bridge by
Mrs. R. Finney. Lovely refreshments
were served by the hostesses, Mrs.
Lottie Bowman and Mrs. Violet Lit

Miss Kindle Leaves
For South Today
Miss Doris Kindle, who has been
guest of ner sister, Mrs. Kenneth
Beebe, of Central Point and other
relatives In the Rogue River valley
for the past two weeks, left today
noon by plane for Los Angeles to re
sume her position with an Insurance
company In the southern city.

Plan Social Evening.
The women of the Methodist Epis
copal church are entertaining this
evening with a general social gather,
lng at the church for mothers and
their friends. Each person Is asked
to bring a covered dish and table
service. Supper will be served at
6:30 o'clock.

Yeomen Picnic
All plans have been completed for
the picnic of the Yeomen lodge to be
held Sunday at Casey's camp. Cars
will leave the K. P. hall at 9:30
o'clock In order to provide transpor
tation for all.

STATE ACCIDENT
COMMISSION PAY
SCHEDULE SLICED
SALEM, Ore.. July 33. (AP) The
state Industrial accident commlMlon
today announced its office staffs in
Portland and Salem would be put on
a six-hour a day basis with corre
sponding reduction In pay beginning
August 1. The commission announc
ed this was made necessary In order
to keep the administrative expense
within 10 per cent law limitation.
The commissioners, of which there
are three, wUl likewise take the corre
sponding reduction In pay but will
not reduce their hours. Field audi
tors outside of Portland are excepted
from the rule and In the auditing
department.
The commission announced adop
tion of this plan rather than to fur
ther reduce the personnel of its de
partment.' During 1931 the commis
sion reduced the number of lta em
ployees 30 per cent and their admin
istrative expense by more than $100,
000. A warning to employers was Issued
by the commission to the effect that
all employers who engage in a haz
ardous occupation without giving the
commission written notice of .their
operations are liable to the accident
commission for coats of all accidents
prior to time of giving notice, In ad
dition to being guilty of a misde
meanor. Twenty-five employers have
been arrested within the past few
months and convictions secured In
virtually all of them for violation of
this provision, the commission an

calling a national conference which
would effect an organization to aid

lem through the medium of the flex

The conference, which was attend
ed by leaders in many walks of life,
was called by the New Hampshire
unemployment relief committee and
the Massachusetts commission on the
stabilization of unemployment. Dur
ing the aeaalon It discussed "the New
Hampshire plan for reemployment,"
which was based on the principle of
flexibility.
