WASHINGTON, July 18. (ff-)
With no congress to stalk, and a gen
eral agreement not to picket the
White House, veterans who want their
bonus wondered today what to do.
They had no intention of parading
on the capltol plaza and staging
demonstrations that would lead to
the arrest of their leaders, as they
did Saturday, for congress was not
meeting and hence could not be lm
preased with their desire for bonus
cashing.
They were ao unsuccessful in their
attempts to picket the White House
that they had agreed with police that
was net so good an Idea.
As a result, most of them sprawled
about their billets In various por
tions of the capital, waiting for some
body to suggest something. Some
took advantage of the permission to
borrow against their bonus certifi
cates enough money for railroad fare
and food home.
Just plain weariness struck veter
ans who had participated In the day
and night march on Capltol Plaza
that ushered congress Into adjourn
ment and who tried to walk up and
down in front of the White House.
A trial for one of their number.
Urban Ledoux, otherwise "Mr. Zero,"
wb set for today, on a charge of dis
orderly conduct while marching with
others In front of the White House
as congress adjourned Saturday.
