Camp Chapparral,
Big Basin, California.
Dear Medford Girl Scouts:
If you can Imagine a vast area of
big and tall redwoods along a big
and aloplng hill and down through
a valley criss-crossed with bubbling
brooks then you can picture the
regional camp down here In Santa
Cruz county, called Chaparral I
With ao many Girl Scouts and
leadera In attendance It seems Im
possible to count them, for at meal
time the tablea look aa though they
covered acreal And speaking ot
food, you know how good that tastes
at camp alwaya, and everyone always
does Justice to the Camp Chaparral
meals, I can assure you I
No one sleep In tent here. You
Just enscone yourself and your pos
sessions In some little woodsy corner
which Is called your "nest," and
ther you efleep under a tall red
wood tree.
Wild animals ar In abundance
here real kindly onea ao tar and
today aa I walked through the camp
I came fac to face with a very
much aurprlaed mother deer and
her tiny fawn. The fawn was moat
Interested and curious about every
thing, and I am aure that If his
mother hadn't stslked off In evident
disgust, that he would have liked to
have stayed and visited.
"It's the tall redwoods that are call
ing me today, ,
Aa I take with my packsack to
tha road.
It's the call on me of the forest
In west,
Aa I step with the sunlight for
my load."
"To Camp Chaparral, from Boulder
and Big Basin I will go.
Where you ace tho deer run shyly
'cross the trail.
It you're thinking In your Inner
heart there'a swagger in my atep.
You've never been along the Red
wood trait.
"It's the tall Redwooda that are call
ing me today,
Aa I take with my packsack to
th road."
Official camp song.
My ehlef Interest In class work
here Is puppetry and marionettes,
and my effort at present are being
directed toward the making of a
yery gay marionette clown. If we
make very ntc onea and learn how
to manipulate them properly we
will be allowed to present them In
a play some night at camp-fire. .
The belt for dinner hns Just rung.
and alnre there la aomethlng I Just
can't miss, we'll call this a column!
But remember, our Camp WUlpeu
