Mrs. Helen Wills Moody today won
the Wimbledon tennis championship
for the fifth time, defeating Helen
Jacobs, fellow Callfornlan, in the
final match, 8-3, 8-1.
Mrs. Moody won the Wimbledon
title first In 1937 as Helen Wills and
repeated the next three years. She
did not go abrosd last yesr and the
title fell to Ollly Aussem, of Ger
many, who did not compete thla
year.
The American champion's victory
repeated the result of the last meet
ing between the two American wo
men, Mrs. Moody winning Isst sum
mer, In the finals of the Seabright,
N. J., tourney, 6-0, 6-0.
The two Helens also were finalists
at Wimbledon three years ago with
Mrs. Moody winning then with the
loss of only three games..
Wllmer Allison and John Van Byn,
Wimbledon doubles champion in
1939 and 1030 and present American
Davis oup pair, were detested In the
eeml-flnala by the veteran French
combination of Jacques Brugnon and
Jean Borotra, 8-3, 6-3, 6-4.
