own efforts, and the referee shoved
him away once with too much vigor

Max Carey, manager of the Brook-
! lyn Dodgen, did his heat bit of
master minding of the season when
he decided a month ago to give
Hollle Thurston a break.
Up to then, Thurston had been
doing relief pitching now and then
with Indifferent success.
On May 2B, Carey sent the 32
year-old right hander against the
Ol&nts. Thurston went the route
and won, 8 to 4. Since then, Thurs
ton has gone to the hill five times,
and yesterday he marked up his
sixth straight victory. His success
since he was promoted, to the varsity
Is one of the big reasons why the
Dodgers are in a tie for fourth place
in the National league today, only
three games from the top.
Yesterdays 7 to 0 win over the
Phillies was Thurston's second shut
out In a row and ran his record
of consecutive scoreless Innings to

teur middleweight wrestler. In hts
first appearance here In two years,
made short work of Ell Lux, of Wis
cotuln last night.' Lux pulled a sur
prise on Myers In taking the first
fall, tossing him with a flying wing
lock In one minute. 58 seconds.
Myers then got under way, taking
the second fall In 13 minutes, 25
seconds with a body slam and the

a reverse headlock.
