DRINK IN GUTTER
BIGS DEATH TO
LITTLE BLACK DOG
He wasn't particular, the little
black dog. who romped Saturday with
June Eaithart at ber home ol North
Riverside. He drank where a drink
seemed handiest, and had no dis
dain lor the gutter. That's where
he hsd .his nose, when a shiny car
came alon and bumped him oil with
one big swerve, without etop, Sat
urday morning.
"He wee standing on the curb."
the little girl whose screams arrested
Mrs. Bid Richardson of the Humane
Society a short time after the acci
dent, explained. "He saw the water
and leaned over to drink. I was
standing right with him. Two cars
passed and one swerved over and hit
him."
As proof of her story, the little
black bundle of dog still lay In the
gutter.
"Well get you another one right
away at the Humane shelter." Mrs.
Richardson attempted to silence her
sobbing.
"I don't want any other dog."
June replied. "I don't ever want any
other dog."
Sharing the same sentiment, her
older sister stood beside her, gazing
down upon their very silent pet.
"He lust looked at me and drove
right on," the little girl repeated
her story of the accident. "He didn't
say a word."
Seeing that consolation was futile
for the hour, Mrs. Richardson as
sisted In moving the little black
animal. Just plain dog. sans pedi
grees, from the gutter to a ahady
spot under a tree, where a funeral
was held for him later In the day.
With the description recalled by
the dog's little mistress, the Humane
society will carry on an extensive
search this week for the driver who
killed him. Mrs. Richardson announc
ed last night, stressing the claim
that the hit and run driver who kills
the pet of a little child, without
apologies. Is as criminal aa one who
hits the child.
