WASHINGTON, June 23, (AP)
Th census bureau ssld today that
daaths from alcohollam per 100,000
population decreased slightly be
tween 1028 and 1830, the last year
for which flgurea are available.
Zn 1030 figures reveal the death
rate from alcohollam was 8.5 per
100,000, Including all atstee but
Tenu, In 1828 It was 3 7, and was
4.0 In 1827 and 1828. The rate In
1010 was 8.4. be highest rate since
then was 8.9 In 1813, and the lowest
1.0. In 1020.
The figures are not baaed on the
population of the entire country,
but only on reports from states in
which at least 90 per cent of all
deaths are registered. Figures for
1830 are baaed on reports from 47
states and the district of Columbia,
but those for 1010 on reports ot unly
31 states and the district.
The number of deatha attributed
to alcoholism was 4168 In 1030 with
47 states and the district of Colum
bia reporting and 2009 In 1910 with
31 statu and the district reporting.
The highest number of deatha on
record waa 4627 In 1828 with 44
states reporting, and the lowest 900
In 1920 with 34 states reporting.

Arrangements have been completed
for the day of prayer for the unem
ployed In Medford and the whole
county, beginning Friday.
The meeting will be held In the
Full Oospel church, Instesd of the
Armory and will continue from 10
a.m. to 10 p.m.
If you can't come and stay all day
come when you can. The public
Is urged to attend these services
that the needy may be remembered
In prayer. We have tried everything
elss, every plan, but conditions are
no better throughout the land. Let's
try Ood's plan.
There will be a prayer band pray
ing continually throughout the day
and during the meaeages. A room
will bs set aside for this special
prayer. It will be an unbroken
chain of prayer throughout the day,
each one praying as long as they
wish.
Prayer services will continue dur
ing the weelc at the Four Square
church. Sunday, M. Helen Bradbury
will speak at both 11 a.m. and
7:48 p.m. eervlces.
Donations will be received at the
church all day Friday for the relief
of the unemployed, to be given out
by the pastor, Rev. Ea telle Jones.
All out of employment are urged
to attend these services.

o'clock on the aubject of prayer.
Rev. Estelle Jones, pastor of the
Four Square church, has been busy
with the commissary work. Many
have had to be turned away because
of the lack of food and clothing.
Business men of Medford have do
nated much for the relief of the
needy. One family Just now Is very
much In need of vegetables. The
children are 111 and the mother la
on the verge of a breakdown be
cause of the lack of food.

HAUSNER PLANS
MIAMI, Fla., June 33. (AP) Safe
ly back on dry land again after eight
days In a wave-tossed plane follow
ing being forced down on an at-
eempted flight from New York to
Poland, Stanislaus Felix Hausner, 38-year-old
motion picture operator,
rested today and made plans for an
other trans-Atlantic hop.
He was brought ashore shortly be
fore midnight from the Circe Shell,
a freighter which sighted his drifting,
disabled plane, took him aboard, suf
fering from hunger, thirst and exposure.
He was accorded honors by the gov
ernment of Poland, his fatherland, as
well as by the United States, of which
he Is a naturalized citizen.
SENORA CALLES HAS
BOSTON, June 33. (AP) Senora
Leonor Florente Calles of Mexico City
today underwent a brain operation ot
Peter Brent Brlgham hospital. Senora
Calles Is the wife of Gen. Plutarco
Ellas Calles, former president of Mex
ico, She made a six-day trip from
Mexico to be operated upon here by
Dr. Harvey Cushlng, Internationally
known surgeon.
Mrs. Calles arrived In Boston Tues
day night and went Immediately to
the hospital.

APPLEGATE FENCE

Hearing In circuit court of the Ap
plegate fence dispute, between, Jen
nie Ba.iT and C. W. Palm and Floyd
Rlppey and others, will be called at
an early date. Attorneys T. J. En-
right and Porter J. Neff. opposing
counsel agreed this morning to fix
a date later.
Hew complications have arisen In
the controversy. Including the cutting
of the current crop of hay and use
of Irrigation water on land lying be
tween whtre the fence has been for
40 years and where the Rlppeys et
al desire to build a new one. Build
ing of the fence Is now tied up by a
temporary Injunction and the entire
matter la Involved with legal points
and pioneer fence construction.
The fence was originally built by
Pat Swayne, former pioneer Apple
gate rancher, and Its location was
never questioned until six weeks ago.
It Is now alleged by one side that
the surveyor did a poor Job and that
the fence Is not on the correct line.
The land Involved came Into the
possession of V. J. Emerlck. former
mayor of Medford, who transferred It
to the present plaintiffs. A portion
of the fence In dispute was built by
Swayne In 1904, and the remainder
In 1890.
