STAR JF HITLER
German Politicians Ponder
Whether Ultimate Fascist
Triumph Might Mean
Restoration of Monarchy
By Walter n rock man
BERLIN (AP With two of the
Hohenzollern prince openly support-1
Ins Adolf Hitler, German politicians
are pondering whether an ultimate
fascist triumph might not mean re-1
toratlon of the monarchy.
Even those reptibllckn minded per
sons who are firm In their belief
that Hltlerlsm will vanish In tho
quicksands of time, took notice when
a statement came from Castle Oels In
Silesia signed "Freidrich Wllhelm,
Crown Prince," Instead of Just plain
Friedrich Hohenaollern." It reveal
ed that Hitler was the presidential
choice of the ex-heir to the ex-
throne.
The signature haa been Interpreted
by many a Indicating that the ex-
kaiser's eldest son regards democrat
ic Germany as only a passing matter,
and that his hopes are rising.
The anti-Hitlerites admit too that
only the naive would argue that the
prince haa hitched his wagon to the
wrong star.
Although Hitler has repeatedly as
serted that hi "third relch" would
not mean another monarchy, such ob
server believe that onoe "In," Hitler
could convince his followers, nourish
ed on the Hohcnrollern fare of mili
tary trappings, drum and heel-cllck-lng.
that it was their solemn duty to
restore the monarchy.
Borrowing Just one more feature
from fascist Italy would be consis
tent, they add, with Hitler's elastic
program.
Two years ago Hitler described the
Hugenberg nationalists, self-appointed
promoter of the Hohenzollern
cause, as "social reactionaries," call
ing hia own movement "social revo
lutionary" and denying that any
Hohenzollern favored him.
Today there Is discreet silence on
this point. Nazi newspaper burl'Kl
the crown prince' statement on In
side page. If they printed It at all.
Prince August Wllhelm, the ex
kaiser's fourth son, familiarly known
as "Auwt," Is a nazl storm troops
leader and Intimate with Hitler. He
won a seat In the Prussian diet in
the recent state election.
"Auwl" aald In the campaign that
those nationalists who voted for the
re-election of President von Hlnden
burg forfeited the right to call them'
selves monarchist.
"Auwl" aald he was speaking for
the crown prince, too, and with the
consent of his exiled father.
This, In connection with the fact
that two of the Hohenzollern off'
spring had shifted their faith from
"Stonewall" Hugenberg, was taken to
mean that the former emperor no
longer disapproved of Heir Hitler.
The crown prince's conversion to
Hltlerlsm followed "Auwl'" by about
two years. He was never active In
politics, whereas Prince August and
the other brother, Eltel Prledrlch and
Oscar, early Identified themselves
with Hugenberg' nationalist.-
"Hitler," so "Auwl" told a maas
meeting at Brunswick, "haa been sent
to the German people by God!"
To which republican have retort
ed that the Hohenzollerns may not
prove a god-send to Hitler.

Three Reasons for Attach

TENDON (AP) Britain ha of

The tatut of Westminster, by
which parliament surrendered th
right to override dominion legisla

king and the right to appeal to the
privy council as tie to bind th
dominions to the motherland "waai

with suspicion in Australia," state
J. O. Latham, Australian foreign
minister.
While t was still leader of the
opposition In the commonwealth,

proposal adopted, that it was to re

I doubt whether we ever shall adopt
It."
TJecrles Irish Policy.
Australia and the Irish Free Stat
are at opposite pole on the ques
tion of cleavage from Britain, Mr.
Latham aald In commenting upon
the new de Valera policies in th
Emerald Isle.
There are three reason for Aus
tralia's attachment to the British
crown, two of the pocket book and
one of the heart.
First 1 the island continent's re
liance for defense upon the British
navy. Without th protection of th
British fleet, a few foreign cruiser
could out off all communication with,
the commonwealth and land an In
vading army on Australian shore.
Australia aa yet ha only a small
population and It may b many dec
ade before the commonwealth would
be capable of effective defense agalnstf
a great power.
In the second place Australia' bee
market 1 In the British Isles, whr
about half of th Australian ex-i
port are purchased. There Is wide
spread and deep conviction In Aus
tralia that mutual British market
afford the unit of th empire their
greatest opportunity.
Want Stronger Tie.
The third reason 1 on of senti
ment. Moat Australian are of Eng
lish, Scottish or Welsh descent, and
allegiance to the British crbwn W
a strong emotion,
"On of our politicians haa only
to refer to the Union Jack, or to
mention King George deferentially
to bring the house down with
cheer," Mr. Latham aald. "Only
small element feel otherwise.",
Australia and New Zealand have
made extensive preparation for the
forthcoming imperial conference at
Ottawa, It 1 learned, with a view
to making even stronger the ties
which bind the empire.
