ks expected Hollywood to gossip
when, re-unlted here recently, tbey
took eeparate home.
The expectation has been fulfilled,
and now they're laughing about It,
both Foster and bli wife, who Is bet
ter known aa Claudette Colbert.
Married five yeara ago they lived
in separate apartmenta In New York,
ao their domestlo arrangement la not
new. When both algned motion pic
ture contract Foater waa brought to
Hollywood while his wife remained at
the eastern atudlo of the eame com
pany. Only once before now has ahe
worked In Hollywood, but recently
ahe, too, waa brought west. Mlsa
Colbert lived at her husbands home
only until ahe could find one of her
own. . - '
But for them living under differ
ent roofs doesn't oonstltute a "sep
aration," and they are not contem
plating a divorce, they say.
Says Claudette, flashing her fam
ous amlle: "Of courae, people think
we are estranged. But we've always
lived this way. We think our plan
la wise for married people who are
both working. This way we see each
other when we're feeling fine, but
when we're tired and croas we Just
stay home to ourselves.
"We didn't like being so far apart,
in different cities, so that we had
to run acroaa the country to see each
other, but we do like having different
homes In the same town."
Says Norman, with hi boyish grin:
"It's Ideal, perfect for ua and what
people think doesn't matter. Ifa
really not anything unusual, because
we're following the path of least re
sistance. Both Claudette and I are
bappler this way."
Says claudette: "My house la big
ger and higher up In the hill we
can argue about which house baa the
nicer view!"
Norman doesn't eay, but might:

They like different kinds of houses,

each should not live In the kind each
wants. Olaudette's, In the same high
hills that ahelter Ann Harding, haa

vants. Norman's, much smaller, has

"Servants get In my hair," aaya
Norman. "But Claudette llkea to
have them around, and ahe hu a
right to them. Both of ua like to
be hoes so what could be simpler
than our having two home In which
each of us can boss?" I

ALBANY, N. Y., June 10. (AP)
Two eminent lawyers whose namea
are withheld for the present, will aid
Oovernor Roosevelt In his study of
the analysis of the evidence concern
ing Mayor Jamea J. Walker of New
York submitted by Samuel, Seabury,
counsel to the legislative city Investi
gating committee.
The governor said last night that
he had selected the lawyers but hed
not communicated with them. Their
services will be purely formal, he
said.
Although declaring he Intended to
act on the Walker case with utmost
speed, Mr, Roosevelt declined to Indi
cate when concrete action might be
forecast. Study of the eight volumes
of evidence will require two or three
weeks, It Is believed. It Is considered
unlikely that any decision will be
.readied until after the democratic
national convention, at which Roose
velt Is a candidate for the presiden
tial nomination of hla party.

fountain pen In the street, but It
wesn't a pen. It waa a fountain
pen gun and It killed him. When
he tried to see If It had any Ink,
It discharged a bullet Into his thigh.
Gangrene set In and he died lust
