Racing Film Scores
With Holly Patrons
Those who have attended the show
ing of "The Crowd Roars" during
the past few days agree that for
thrills, aotlon, suspense and all
round entertainment, this picture
is hard "to beat. So realistic are
the scenes that fans feel that they
were with the principals as they
take you through this story.
Tha Crowd Roars" Is not lust
a roaring mass of racing cars. The
story concerns the life of a famous
race driver, both on and off the
track.
The short subjects on this program
are also very entertaining. Graham
McNamee has a lot of interesting
news material to work on. Babe
Ruth appears In another comedy .
wherein he teaches a few embryo
all -Americans some of the finer
points of baseball. A cartoon rounds
out the program.
Sunday the Holly will offer an
other very fine picture but radi
cally different from anything pro
duced thus far this year "Radio
Patrol."
public relations committee of Port
land, headed by Aaron M. Frank. The
commission abandoned the emergency
relief program last April but yester
day was urged to resume it.
Has Taxpayer Slant
Scott had said frequently that he
went on the highway commission post
with the "taxpayer's viewpoint.' He
has held that emergency relief work
is wasteful and extravagant and that
Oregon highway work should be car
ried out under the contract plan in
order that federal aid might be ob
tained. Reports were circulated here yes
terday that the executive department
of the state glvernment favored a
bond issue for emergency relief work
but Governor Meter himself has nev
er publicly Indicated that he favor
ed continuation of relief work.
The public relations committee told
the highway commission here yester
day the situation in Multnomah
county now is more serious than It
has been at any previous time and
asked the commission to "make"
work for 800 men.
Scott replied that If work were
"made" for the unemployed in Mult
nomah .county work would have to
be provided all over the state.
Final decision of the commission
on the request for emergency relief
was not announced.
