Carole Lombard To
Appear Wednesday
(By Jack, Retlaw)
She had never had a chiice In
life. Her family was of the type that
was perfectly satisfied with compara
tive poverty, and they thought she
should be satisfied with It, too. Ou
the other hand she wanted to rise
above all this. As a modiste's model,
she had ample opportunity to dis
play gorpeous clothes and meet the
very elite of society. It made her
envious, naturally.
She had been going out with a
young mechanic who could not un
derstand why they should not go
ahead and get married on the few
dollars that he had saved.
The Inevitable quarrel came, not
alone with her lover, but her family 1
as well. She had made a "hit" with
one of the wealthy "patrons" of the
modiste's shop, and he recognized
her beauty and cultural ambitions.
Colncldentally, her mechanic lover
also met a wealthy woman who be
came infatuated with him and
wanted hi in to marry her , . . and
she would give him anything he de
sired. "Sinners in the Sun,M featuring
beautiful Carole Lombard and virile
Chester Morris, which la coming to
the Fox Crnterlan theater tomorrow.
Is one of the cleverest modern day
romances filmed in some time. It
is well worth taking "time off" to
see.
Today will be the final opportu
nity to see that spectacular Howard
Hughes eplo of gangland "Scarface,"
I i
featuring Paul Muni, Boris Karloff,
Karen Morley, Ann Dvorak, George
Raft and many others of note. Thl
Is a smashing Indictment of the
gunmen.
Edmond Lowe Stars
In Drama At Holly
Edmund Lowe, star of "Attorney
for the Defense," cross -ex ami nee
Clarence Muse, negro character ac
tor, In vigorous fashion for one of
the scenes of the picture.
Lowe's father was one of the best
known attorneys In Ban Francisco
In the early days of the century and
it almost broke the parental heart
when Eddie, having received degrees
from Santa Clara university and
Leland Btanford, elected the roman
tic footlights Instead of the digni
fied profession of Blacks tone, As
he stands up close before the flash
ily dressed negro and Interrogates
him with all the uncanny shrewd
ness of a great criminal lawyer, Lowe
gives one the Impression that he
might have gone to great height
had he followed In his dad's foot
steps. Of Interest also, Is the fact that
tho negro. Muse, is a lawyer himself.
He received a degree in 1917 follow
ing his graduation from Dickinson
college In Carlisle, Fa.
"Attorney for the Defense will
