In Summer Setting
At an Impressive ceremony, read
by Rev. Wm. B. Hamilton of the St.
Mark's church, Episcopal, on the rose
bordered veranda of the home of
Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Janes, Capitol
Hill, their daughter, Mary Elizabeth,
became the bride of Clyde Gilbert,
son of Mrs. J. B. Gilbert of Colum
bia, Mo., Thursday afternoon. The
service was read at 3:00 o clock In
the presence of relatives snd Immed
iate friends of the bridal couple,
who gathered on the spacious lawn,
decorated by a changing pattern of
ehadows from the sheltering grove
of oak trees.
The bride, attired In a sport suit
of pale green with white accessories,
and carrying a shower bouquet of
deep pink roses, formed a charming
picture before the mass of roses and
potted plants, screening the veranda.
Her maid of honor. Miss Jean Bwl
gart, daughter of Mr, and Mrs, Carl
Swlgart, wore a sport frock of print
ed silk and carried an arm bouquet
of sweetpeaa. Ernest Rostel, son of
Mrs. Ernestine Rostel of Central
Point, was best man for the groom
Preceding the service, Miss Ellow
Mae Wilson, soprano, sang "Still Is
the Night,"' accompanied at the pi
ano by Mrs, George Andrews. Mrs.
Janes, mother of the bride, played
Lohengrin's wedding march aa the
bridal party entered the veranda.
Following the ceremony a small
reception was held at the Janes
home. In the dining room, where
Mlas Fay Woolsey presided at the
tea table, a bower of pink roses
sheltered a china bride, and other
decorations were developed in a del
icate color scheme of pink, green
and silver. Intimate friends of the
bride. Misses Ellow Mae Wilson, Ber
ntce Hoffman, Gertrude Hasklns, and
Cecil Humphrys of this city, and Miss
Evelyn Hoffman of Yreka, Cal,, as
sisted ill serving.
After the reception, Mr, and Mrs.
Gilbert left for California and will
spend their honeymoon In Mt. Las
sen national park, where Mr. Gilbert
Is ranger-naturalist.
The bride, a popular member of
Medford's younger set, Is a graduate
of the local high school and a former
student of the University of Oregon,
where che waa affiliated with Alpha
Chi Omega aororlty.
Mr. Gilbert attended both the Uni
versity of Oregon, where their ro
mance had Its origin, and the Uni
versity of Missouri. And Is a mem
ber of Sigma Phi Epsllon fraternity.

The auxiliary to the Jackson
County Medical society had a most
enjoyable and profitable meeting at
the home of Mrs. Wm. W. P. Holt
Tuesday afternoon.

charge of Mra. R. W. Bleeter.
With an unusually good attend
ance many Interesting and helpful
current events pertaining to health
work were given In response to roll
call.
Mrs, E. W. Shockley and Mrs. R.
W. Sleeter gave a piano duet which
was greatly enjoyed.
Mrs. D. M. Brower read two ar
ticles on auxiliary work, one by the
past state president, Mrs. Ed Allen
Pierce of Portland and one by the
Incoming state president, Mrs, Wilson
Johnston.
"The Baslo Science Law" was given
and discussed by Mrs. Charlea T.
Sweeney.
Mrs. F. G. Swedenburg gave an
account of the one-half million dol
lar law suit between Norman Baker
and the American Medical associa
tion. "This case came to trial In
the federal district court In Daven
port, Iowa, on February 0, 103a, and
continued for a period of nearly
four weeks. On March the Jury
returned a yerdict for the Ameri
can Medical association." This report
waa taken from the May, 1933, num
ber of the Hygela.
Mrs. F. G. Thayer and Mrs. Holt
presided at a beautifully appointed
tea table where refreshments were
served.
This waa the last meeting of the
spring, the auxiliary to resume ac
tivities In the fall.

held Its final meeting for the year
Tuesday afternoon at the Hotel
Medford. Officers for the coming

the raising and marketing of rab
bits. The blue seal on the breast

tion and is placed there only when
the animal Is up to standard In

Federated Clubs
Reports in The Oregonlan of the
convention of the Oregon Federation
of Women's clubs, in session in Port
land, bring news of the re-election of
Mrs. Edwin L. Knapp of this city to
the office of state recording secretary.
A partial report of convention hap
penings, published in the Rose City
Press reads:
Election of officers, scheduled for
this morning, will be a matter of
routine, since the entire board, with
the exception of the two members
whose offices were abolished by the
revised constitution, were named for
re-election. The women honored by
nomination for re-election are the
president, Mrs. Charles N. Bllyeu of
Dallas, the first vice-president, Mrs.
George Gerald Root of Portland; sec
ond vice-president, Mrs. Charlea E.
Wells of Htlleboro; recording secre
tary, Mrs. Edwin L. Knapp, Medford,
and the treasurer, Miss Jessie Mc
Gregor of Portland. The parliamen
tarian and -corresponding secretary
are appointed by the president. Polls
will be open from 8 to 10 A. M. today
at the Multnomah hotel, where the
convention Is being held, for the for
mal casting of ballots, with Mrs.
Randall F. White of Portland as chair
man of the election.
The first district federation, which
comprises Josephine, Jackson, Klam
ath, Lake and Curry counties, won
the silver trophy awarded for the
highest percentage of subscription,
based on per capita dues-paying mem
bership, to the Oregon Clubwoman,
official magazine of the state federa
tion, more than 74 per cent of the
federation members In the district
being enrolled on the subscription
lists. Mrs. Evelyn Wilson Young of
Portland, business manager of the
magazine, presented the trophy to
Mrs. Wade H- Wallla of Ashland, presi
dent of the first district. District No.
4, which embraces Baker, Grant, Har
ney, Malheur, Morrow, Umatilla.
Union and Wallowa counties, was
second with more than 60 per cent
of subscription.

the 18th amendment." So Miss Cella
L. Gavin of The Dalles, chairman of
the legislative department for the
state federation, declared in her por
tion of the program yesterday, call
ing attention to the fact that the na
tional organization haa endorsed the
18th amendment ten consecutive
times at Its business sessions. Mrs.
Dorothy McCullough Lee, appearing
on the same program, selected legis
lation affecting mothers' pensions,
Issuance of marriage licenses, old-age
pensions and child' welfare as smong
those of most Interest to clubwomen
of the state likely to be considered at
the 1933 legislative session.
The fine arts department, headed
by Miss Grace H. Chamberlain of
Ashland, presented its program at the
afternoon session In the form of a
"walking rehearsal." which is the
popular method of studying drama in
the state federation. Mrs. Mark Mc
Allister, Mrs. Clara D. Smith, Mrs.
Donald Pague and Mrs. William For
dyce Fargo assisted In the presenta
tion, and Miss Harriett Long of Sa
lem, state librarian, was speaker.
Strawberry Festival
Announced by Class
The women of the Bible class of the
Prtjbyterian church extend a cordial
invitation to all women of the T. W.
C. A. class to attend their strawberry
festival, announced for Tuesday af
ternoon, May 31.

Grants Pass, whose gardens form a
beauty spot of southern Oregon.
In the economy table division, fea
tured for the first time this year,
were many expressions of woman's
cleverness. The table, which appealed
most to elderly eyes, at the same
time being the envy of hosts of young
exhibitors was entered by Mrs. Wm.
W. P. Holt. Set In old-fashioned ware,
arranged on a quaint blue plaid cloth.
It seemed to Invite a sweet little
grandmother to sit down for a cup
of tea. An old caster and blue bor
dered dishes, reminiscent of the long
ago, were In keeping with the center
bouquet in old fashioned Jug.
Shrdow boxes, occasional tables, a
rose covered garden gate, leading Into
reck garden and lily pond, wall
hangings entered by the Japanese col
ony, a bouquet of yellow columbine,
flountlng spurs of five and six inches
In length, a group of South African
daisies, and a little yellow basket
filled with pink moss roses were also
high lights In the long list of beau
tiful entries, doubling the total for
last year's show.
