Coast champion, Lower right, Ellsworth Simpson of Seattle, Wash.
Boating fans throughout southern
Oregon and northern California are
looking forward to the championship
speedboat races which will be held at
Emigrant dam on the Pacific high
way, four miles south of Ashland,
Sunday, May 33. Over 35 of the lead
ing drivers from all points on the
Pacific coast wll compete for the
$500 In prise money and trophies
which wll be awarded at the re
gatta. Raoea will begin at 3 p. m.,
and a crowd of over 8,000 people Is
expected to attend.
A great deal of rivalry has devel
oped betwen Wilbur and Angllley,
two of the drivers pictured above,
by reason of the fact that Angllley,
who now holds the Pacific coast
championship, baa been decisively
beaten by Wilbur twice during the
present season.
Angllley hss been bothered some
what by motor trouble and In the
last race meet here threw a con
necting rod while battling for flrat
place with Wilbur. He has written
members of the local boat club that
he has his motor in shape again and
will be on hand to square accounts
with the Sacramento, lad. Both driv
ers are veterans of the game on the
Pacific coast and a race full of spills
and chills is bound to result.
While the feud between Angllley
and Wilbur Is occupying the center
of the stage, two or three local drlv- j
era. who have exceptionally fast out- j
fits, are making extensive prepare- ;
tlons to take the coveted prize money j
from the California speed artists, and ;
a great many of the loyal home-1
towners believe they can do It.
