HOST FOR CANDIDATES
PARTY NEXT TUESDAY
All Jacksonville county candidates
will b honored at a party given by
the Jacksonville Orange May 17, at
8 p. m. A program of music and
entertainment U being arranged also
to Include the Introduction of candi
dates. Thla will probably be the last
"campaign" party of the season, but
by no means the least, according to
the lecturer of the Jacksonville
Orange.
Every effort ha been expended to
make thla meeting one of Interest
and value to both the candidate and
the voters of Jacksonville precinct,
who are all cordially Invited to at
snd this meeting. Indeed, no bet
ter use of time could be made than
that the would-be servants of the
people and the voters themselves
should spend an evening of mutual
Interests together In the once famous
halls of Justice, the old county court
house, which was so long the polit
ical center of Jackson county.
It Is hoped that It will be an In
spiration - to the candidates to visit
once again this historical building
still making history for Itself as the
home of the Jacksonville Orange.

WTMER, May 16. (Spl.) The can
didates' meeting at Enterprise Orange
Wednesday night was a decided suc
cess, with about 200 people In at
tendance, Mrs. J. R. Bowen and her H. E.
committee served refreshments. Her
committee Included Mrs. HI Moore,
1 Mrs. Eugene Moore and Mrs. Vivian
Norman Barto.
Quests were Mr. and Mrs. E. C.
Oaddls, Mr. and Mrs A. J. Hanby,
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jennings, Messrs.
Phil Lounsberry, E. h. Knapp and
Phil Lowd, from Med ford, and Mr.

APPLEGATE, May 10. (Spl.) A

Into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Al
bert Colllngs on Big Applegate last
Thursday evening and was given
dance. Mr. Colllngs Is an old-time
resident here and was married to Miss
Alma Bell of 6in Diego, Cal., In the
parlors of the Grand hotel at Med-
ford, last Wednesday evening. Mr.
and Mrs. Colllngs will make their
home in this vicinity.

X short Mother's day program of
recitations and songs was given at
the close of Sunday school last Sun
day afternoon. It being so near the
end of the school term, many of the
children were too busy with school
work to take part.
Mrs. D. B. Farquharson of San
Francisco and Mrs. J. B. Rohrer and
daughter. Miss Helen of Montague,
Cal., were guests at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. L. J. Rohrer May 5.
Mrs. W. M. Hansen returned home

spend some time visiting her sister.

bard to visit relatives. Mr. Cromley
expects to spend two weeks In As
toria before returning home.
Mrs. Fred Offenbaoher entertained
13 guests at a birthday party at her
home recently. Mrs. Kathertne De
Lalre of Medford and Miss Lorn a
Kublt acted as hostesses. After re
freshments were served the afternoon
was sent In playing whist.
Mrs. Ben Dawson left last week for
Roseburg. where she will spend some
time visiting relatives while she !s
recovering from an operation recently
performed In Medford.
Thompson Creek Sunday school,
with the help of the Orange, gave a
mother's day program at their school
house last Sunday. A picnic dinner
was enjoyed and the afternoon was
spent In playing games.
The county health nurse and Dr.
German of Medford were visiting
the many schools In the Applegate
section last Wednesday, giving diph
theria tests to the children.
O. S. Blackford and two daughters,
Lola and Vldal, of Central Point were
Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Straube and family.
Applegate people and several from
Medford and Jacksonville had a very
enjoyable evening last Saturday at a
social gathering and dance at Ruch
schoolhouse. ,

holiday period offering the Incentive
(or trips by thousands of persons,
cent-s-mile round trip transportation
fares will be placed In effect for that
occasion by Southern Pacific com
pany. It was announced today.
Dates of the offer were announced
by A. A. Rosenbaum, district freight
and passenger agent for the rallrond,
as May 27, 38, 29 and 30, with the
return limit on all tickets set at mid
night of Monday. June 0. As In pre
vious instances, the low fares will
aply on Southern Pacific's lines In

(AP) Mrs. Edna Chrtstofferson, Wll
lam R. Graham and Oeorge Llablln,
who expected to reach here May 3 on
a flight from Nome, have not been
heard from since that date. Resi
dents here, however, believe they are
stormbound and safe somewhere
along the Arctic coast.
The trio started out to search for
the derelict ship Baychlmo, abandon
ed In Arctic ocean ice by Its crew
last November, and expected to be
back In Nome today.
It was pointed out stormy weather
may have forced them down at Waln
wrlght, Point Hope or some other
coast settlement. Mrs. Chrlstofferson
of Portland Ore., and Graham, expe
rienced Alaskan pilot, were lost last
February for 11 days In Canada.
They were heading north to make
a search for the Baychlmo and were
forced down near Atlln,, B. C. Cana
dian filers finally found them, suf
fering from fatigue and exposure.
Since then It was learned valuable
furs had already been removed from
the Baychlmo by part of the crew
which remained on the coast.
