NEW YORK, May 7 (AP) The
stock market paused to get Its bear
ings today, after yesterday's sweep
ing upturn.
The list maintained a fairly good
undertone, but further minor rallies
attracted weekend selling and pro
fit taking, and there were numerous
small recessions largely fractions to
a point at the finish. Turnover ap
proximated 600,000 shares, and the
closing tone was easy.
Ralls and Otis acted best, but
were unable to make persistent head

the way of business or political news
of a character further to stimulate
the market.

Withdrawal Unlikely
The little interest shown to date
has been manifested In the county
Judge and sheriff's race, on both
tickets. It twas also reported tha
some of the candidates for these two
offices, on the Republican ticket, had
been requested to withdraw for the
"good of the party." This Is not like
ly as every candidate thinks he Is a
cinch to win and wants the other fel
low to resign.
Several candidates claim they have
the Orange endorsement "In the bag."
Orange leaders say there will be no
endorsement, as an organisation, as
