The Medford Service station, under !

Furnas, has taksn over the Associated
OH station at the corner of East
Main and the Pacific highway south.
In order to give Its patrons complete
car service from gasoitne to Goodyear
tires and tubes all at one stop.
An official opening will be held at
the Associated station May 7 with
favors from the owner to callers dur
ing the day. Extensive Improvements
under way Include re-palntlng and
decorating the exterior. New equip
ment will also be Installed to facili
tate the service rendered by this firm
to motorists.
May 7 will mark a re-union for Mr.
Furnas with the Associated Oil sta
tion of which he was the original
owner and operator, having built It In
1018. At that time It was the only
service station tn this city. Several
years ago he leased the property to
the Associated OH company.
The Medford Service station, next
door to the Associated establishment,
has become southern Oregon's out
standing Goodyear shop, and the ad
dition of the gas and oil sales serv
ice will serve to Increase Its popu
larity. Six men arc zmployed by Mr.
Furnas tn serving his customers and
Elbert Coleman will continue to msn
afle the Associated station under the
present plan.

FESTIVAL OF MUSIC
A INSPIRING VENT
One of the moat pleasant events
of the past week to numerous groups
of southern Oregon people was the
two-day mualo festival In Ashland,
sponsored as an annual event by the
Southern Oregon Normal school.
With seven schools of southern Ore
gon and northern California partici
pating, the program afforded splen
did entertainment for admirers of
chorus, band snd orchestra work.
Speakers on the program, Introduc
ing the festival of music, were Mayor
Thornton of Ashland and A. C.

Mary Magdalene Child , 6S, passed
away at her home at 18 Portland
avenue Friday evening, after an ill
ness of two and one-half years. She
was born at Uoerty. Mississippi. May
1863, and was married to L. W.
Chllde January 10. 1883. In St. Lan
dry parish, Louisiana, Her husband
preceding her In death on June 8,
1028.
Mrs. Chllds had been a resident
of Medford for the past twenty years
and had been a member of the Bap
tist church since childhood.
She le survived by one daughter,
Mrs. Ivan K. YYaddell of Medford,
Ore., and two sons, oorge W. Chllds
of Medford, and N. M. Chllds of
Onelousas, La., and alx grandchll'
dren; also one sister, Mrs. J. K. Wil
son of Opelouaaa, La.
Funeral services will be held at
the Perl Funeral Home today at 3:30
o'clock. Rev. W. H. Eaton officiating.

month of declining prices, with
leveling off tendency today.
The list showed signs of sinking
further Into new low territory the
first hour, then recovered and fluct
uated narrowly late, closing with
numerous gains of fractions to a
point or ao.

lion shares, but the closing tone

The first forum meeting of the
Medford Chamber of Commerce un
der 1U new officers will be held In
connection with the meeting of the
Klwanlt dug Monday with Charles
H. Ingeraoll. president of the Xnger-
soll Watch Co., and vice president of
the Manhattan Single Tax club, as
the principal speaker, . A. P. John
son, newly appointed forum chair
man, will preside.
The chamber feels that It la fortu
nate in securing an appearance of
Mr. Ingersoll, who la malting a tour
of the Pacific coast, talking to vari
ous clvto groups on the taxation
question. For thtrty year he has
been head of the company which
bears his name, the Ingersoll Watch
Co., "the watch that made the dol
lar famous." He Is a business man
of fifty years ot colorful experience,
and has a fund of Intimate knowl
edge of business and economic prob
lems, Mr. Ingersoll llkee to talk to, con
fer with, and be heckled by his au
diences, and his sense of humor has
always been an outstanding feature
of hu many public appearances. For
the past fifteen years he has been
active In public work, both ae an
officer of the Manhattan Single Tax
club, the Industrial Tax Relief com
mission of New Jersey, the Reform
Club of New York, and numerous
other organizations.
Monday's forum meeting will con

In southern Oregon, was held at the
Medford high school yesterday by the
girls of Medford and Ashland high
schools, under the direction of Miss
Mary Magoon of Aahland, and Mlas

Approximately one hundred girls
participated In the program, with a
luncheon being served at noon, under
the direction of Miss Maurlna Car
roll. After lunch Impromptu skrta
were presented by each group. The
Blacks won the finals with 168 points,

has been celled for next Friday night
at the armory. Plans for participa
tion In the national convention which
