SEVEN SCHOOLS
REPRESENTED IN
Seven school of northern Cali
fornia and southern Oregon are -represented
today at the Southern Ore
gon Music festival Jn Ashland, spon
sored by the Southern Oregon Nor
mal school, under the direction of
Miss Louise Woodruff, music super
visor. Representing California are stu
dents from Weed and Treka. South,
ern Oregon schools Included In the
program are. Rogue River, Gold
Hill, Talent, Medford and Ashland,
the largest representation being from
this city.
The morning and afternoon pro
grams today were attended by a
large and appreciative audience. The
morning was devoted to group re
hearsals and Interest this afternoon
is centered tn the singing of the
combined choruses. Among them
are the high school choruses of 125
voices, directed by Miss Harriett
Baldwin of Medford, whose In spir
ing supervision- shows that her mu
sicianship tells her what effects to
achieve and her training how to
get them.
The girls' combined chorus, di
rected by Mrs. Minnie Guy, also re
ceived much favorable applause to
day, as did the boys' chorus under
Miss Helen Kllgore's direction, the
combined orchestras, led by Ward
Prost of, Ashland, and the combined
bands, directed by P. Wilson Walt
of this city.

Mrs. Pearson Entertains
Play Cast, Neff Home
Mrs. Harold Pearson was hostess
Wednesday at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Porter J. Neff to members of
the cast and others associated with
presentation of the St. Mark's Altar
Guild play, "Bless His Little Heart,"
following the second staging of the
show.
The after-theatre party was also Mrs.
Pearson's farewell meeting wit,1! a
circle of local friends. She left on
the Shasta Thursday for her home
In Birmingham, Ala., after having
spent several months with her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Driver,
at their home on the Old Stage Road.
Catholic Ladles Plan
May Bridge Event
The women of Vie Sacred Heart
Catholic church are planning a May
party for next Wednesday evening,
which will open with a covered dlah
supper at 6:30 o'clock at the parish
hall. Following supper, cards will be
enjoyed and the public la Invited to
the event, which promises to be an
appropriate celebration of the arrival
of ttie month of May.
Mrs. Stuart Entertains
At Party for Son
Mrs. Gilbert Stuart entertained
Saturday with a party for her young
son, Richard Norwood Stuart, who
celebrated his sixth birthday. Twelve
children Joined him In a trip to the
theater for the afternoon matinee and
returned to the Suart home for re
freshments and games.

Mrs. Del no Sloan entertained at
her home In Phoenix with a delight
ful party Wednesday evening, honor
ing her young son Weldon, on his
tenth birthday. Fifteen boy and
girl friends helped him enjoy the

Draw Many to Ashland
All members of Crater Lake Chap
ter, D. A. R., are urged to attend the
luncheon and meeting In Ashland,
Tuesday. May 3. This Is a general
southern Oregon conference and
many things of local Interest will be
brought up. The new state regent,
Mrs. John Richardson, and other
state officers will be present. Those

The pupils will be accompanied at
Coroner H. W. Conger said today,
following an Investigation Into the
death of Mrs. Irene Ezzell yester
day. In the kitchen of her apart
ment In Durrell Court, 329 North
Holly street, that he was satisfied
suicide was the cause of death and
the death certificate required by
law would so state. Mrs. Ezzell was
found by her daughter, Doris, when
efforts to reach her by telephone
failed. The gas Jet of the stove
was turned on full force.
No reason Is known for the act.
Coroner Conger said that a witness
Informed him today that Mrs. Ezzell
contemplated suicide about a year
ago and that when he called upon
her relative to some stenographic t
work, she said: i
"It's a good thing you came when !
you did, or I would not have been
vhere any more."
The witness said he talked to Mrs
Ezzell for some time, and urged her
not to take any rash steps, and that
she heeded his admonition.

Ralph E. Sweeney was re-elected
president, Dr. B. R. Elliott was
elected vice-president and Frank
Hagerty, secretary.
Mr. Sweeney gave a brief talk on
the history of banking, following
which the meeting took up the con
sideration of business and church
matters.

DAMAGE SUIT APPEAL!
The City of Medford today filed
bonds on an undertaking of an ap
peal to the supreme court from the
verdict of $500. awarded to Axel
Benson and wife In their suit against 1
the municipality for alleged dam
ages arising from the overflow ol
sludge from the city septic tank
on their lands. The city filed no-;
tlce of an appeal last week.
