In the rural school division of the
county truck meet conducted yester
day at the Jackson county fair
grounds, Shady Cove won the trophy
donated by the Ashland Rotary club
for one and two-room schools, with
31 polnta. The Medford Actlvlan cup
for three and four-room school! went
to Oak Orove, with 86 polnti.

poned yesterday because of weather

chairman of the track and field
meet. He stated that ttiey would
probably be conducted April 30 or
May 7.
West Side Leads .
Winning! In the one and two-room
school groups gave West Side achool
IS, Reese Creek 16, Bellvlew 8, Nell
Creek 8 and Missouri Flat a.
Second place in the three and
four-room achools went to Howard
with 40 point. Other ratings were
van Valley 38 and Laurelhurst 13,
About 160 studeuta from twenty
school! participated In the annual
field contests, and although the
weather conditions were not Ideal,
large number of spoctatora were In
the grandstands. Lunch was served
there at noon by the Bellvlew F.-T. A.
In each event blue, red and white
ribbons were given winners of first,
second and third places, respectively,

game from Howard school. 10 to 10,

more than half a million will be
registered for the games this season,
according to the post official.

off between a team that has won
all contests west of the Mississippi

by his own anchor rope, Glenn A.
White of Portland drowned here
Friday. He was flBhing for salmon
from a rowboat.
White was about 100 feet from
shore when he dropped the heavy
anchor. The rope tangled about his
