ON OPENING DAY

Bait and spinnera promise to be
the most effective, snd most gen
erally used, lures. The popularity
of the fly will lncreiwe as the
streams return to normal level.
Evana creek will bo one of the
best streams for early fishing. local
fishermen state. The Little . Butte
will also be a favored haunt, and
the Rogue, as always.
Fish lake will be unapproachable
because of snows on the opening
day, and It Is highly Improbable
that anyone will venture to Htatt
prairie.
Any atream which la not fed by
snow waters will offer good fishing.
Although the Oregonlan recently
ran an illustration of steelhead
fishing In the Rogue, the river has
not been open to steelhead fishing
during the winter. The steelhead
now in the river are no good, poor
and enroute to the ocean, the
an filers claim.
The season next year will be open
from April 15 to February 1, ac
cording to decision of the game
commission. It Is hoped here that
anglers In the north will not take
the Oregonlan picture seriously and
plan to do any steelhead fishing, as
the fresh run will not be on in
the Rogue until June. The veteran
anglers start out In search of them
with the fly for lure the first Sun
day after July 4.
