Report from California, where Miss
Brannan has Just spent a successful
month in speaking, are uniformly en
thusiastic over her messages, which
are being given before schools, col
leges, service dubs, women' clubs
and other groups.
The subject of her address to be '
given here Is "Europe Today." Miss
Brannan has had much experience In
the Buropean countries. She served
In the Y. W. 0. A. In France during
the World war, was a student at Ox
ford, and attended the League of Na
tions conference In Oeneva.

Is questioned by members of the
I. O. O. F., whose chsllenge waa ac
cepted last night by the B P. O. E
Exalted Ruler Joe Fllegel, who ac
cepted the challenge for a match,
appointed Messrs. Newbury, Hall
and Lewis TJlrlch s committee to
meet with tha Odd Fellows to com
plete detalla for the contest.
W. F. Rector and hie committee,
aa yet unnamed, will represent the
Odd Fellow at the session to be
held Tuesday. At thst time arrange
ments for the apelllng bee. which
tha Odd Fellows predict will mark
the "Elks' undoing," will be com
pleted. As leading asplranta to the title,
so flong claimed by Newbury and
Hall, Mr. Rector names Prof. A. J.
Hanby. H. W. Conger and A. B. Wil
liams. He has many others whose
qualifications and training he re
fuses to reveal, but boasta that they
can outspell any "has-been school
teacher" In the county.
The best spellers from both lodges
are expected to enter tne contest
and the committees have been ad
vised to obtain a hall large enough
to house a record southern Oregon
crowd for the occasion.
All lodge members, spellers and
their families, former pupil of Hall
and Newbury, who glory In the proa
pecta of their defeat, and supporters
of the cry for bigger and better
spellers, are expected to form the
throng of spectators.

SALEM, April 8. (AP) The. pro
hibition question almost disrupted
the third district convention of
Federated Women's clubs, held here
yesterdsy. A resolution affirming
the convention's stand In favor ol
the 18th amendment was finally re
ferred to the legislative committee
to be presented st the state federa
tion convention at Portland In May.
Officers elected unanimously for
the ensuing two-year term were

Scouts Are Doing
The first Girl Scouts of southern
Oregon to receive their Golden Eaglet
badge will be presented at the Girl
Scout court of awards on Saturday
night at the court house. These girls
