LEAGUE
Eighty mother Attended the ban
quet Wednesday evening at Senior
high school, held as a. feature of
OirU' league week, being celebrated
thla week by the local organization.
The menu waa prepared by the cook
ing claM under the supervision of
Mr. Gertrude Gates.
The tables were beautifully deco
rated with a corsage at each place,
guests being members of the Girls'
League council, mothers and women
of the faculty.
An Interesting program was pre
sented at the close of the banquet,
Including these numbers:

attempting to reach their cabin, was
renewed this week with the coming j
of settled weather without success,

Brown's waa known. A thorough
search In the neighborhood of the
cabin baa been futile.

the prey of wild animals.

A Jackson county barometer of
return to normalcy and more set

vided by the tax department of the
sheriff's office. On April 1, last
year, the tax collection department
had Issued its 1000th tax receipt.
On the same date this year more
than 1300 tax receipt had been Is
sued. For the past three weeks
there has been a fatrly steady run
of tax payments by citizens.

ment showing that tax delinquency
In Jackson county had decreased
10.74 per cent since January 1.
Tax payment this year will be
In excess of last year by a substan
tial margin, the tax collection de
partment declares. More of the pay
ments than usual are for the full
year.
The first half tax payment period
ends In May. Corporation half year
tax payments are due the last of
this month.

conducted a meeting of agents end
ticket clerks at the local passenger
station.
Representatives from valley points

and tariffs were discussed. The
meetings are conducted each spring
and fail by the company. Mr.
Sutherland explained to the group
that tickets to eastern points coat
no more via California than by the
direct northern lines.

service on the million dollar Great
Northern line from Bend to Shevlln
Junction began Thursday. The new
line la at mile long. Work on It
