MEET SCHEDULED
PHOENIX LADIES' AID
MEETING THURSDAY
PHOENIX. April 6. (SpU Lncllos'
Aid society will gather at the home
of Mr. Dave Walker Thursday foi
an all-day meeting, with covered
dish luncheon at noon. All ladlea
of the society and community are
Invited.
It was decided at a meeting Friday:
of the committee appointed by the
Scoutmasters asoclatlon that the field
meet will be held May 21 at Van
Scoyoc field, instead of at the fair
grounds, as has been the case In
past years. This is after the Junior
high and grade school track meets
and does not conflict with any other
event.
The only radical change In the pro
gram for this year was In the section
dealing with events strictly athletic.
It was felt that such events as dashes,
relays, etc.. are not strictly scouting.
At the same time, these events are
offered by the various schools In
their field meets.
It Is expected to make the event a
demonstration of scouting to the pub
lic as well as a competitive meeting
for scouts
Various troops are expected to offer
demonstrations of the Pine Tree pat
rol method of camping and other
things which take place In camp and
aro not familiar to adults. Tho camp
ing efficiency contest, initiated last
year, was modified so that It calls
for only such equipment as would be
used In an overnight hike, requlr-
ins that the scouts hike around the
field, having their packs Inspected,
and prepare a camp for an overnight
stay. Last year the event Included
the cooking of a full meal. This part
has been eliminated.
Troops from Ashland and Grants
Pass are expected to enter the event,
Inasmuch as there are too few troops
In each of these cities to permit the
carrying out of a field meet on a very
large scale. A similar meet will be
planned for Klamath Falls a week or
two after the one in Medford.
