Society and Clubs
Banquet In Eugene
Tonight for Dean Allen.
Invitations have been received by
several former students ol the Uni
versity of Oregon In this city to the
banquet to be held tonight at the
Eugene Hotel in honor of Dean Eric
W. Allen, dean of the school of Jour
nalism, who is finishing his 20th
year with the University of Oregon
and his 16th as dean of the School
of Journalism.
Dean Allen has been granted a
leave of absence for the balance of
this school year In lieu of sabbatical
leave. His birthday is April 4 and
so In honor of the two occasions
students have chosen this opportu
nity to express their love and ap
preciation of his great contribution
to the school.
Invitations have been extended a
few close friends and graduates of
the school In all sections of the
coast.
MIm Brannan to Sneak
Here On April 9.
Study clubs of the city and many
other groups are anticipating the
arrival here next week of Ml&o Elea
nor Doddridge Brannan. who will
speak at the Christian church April
9. As associate secretary of the
National Council for Prevention of
War, Miss Brannan brings a message
of great interest to the thinking
people. Her address will be open
to the public and a large attend
ance is anticipated.
Her subject for the Medford meet
ing has not been announced. Those
on which she speaks are : "The
Challenge of the World Disarmament
Conference"; "America at the Cross
roads". "How to Make the Kellogg
Pact a Reality"; "Europe Today."
and the "New World Road Guide."
Miss Brannan Is a descendant of
Richard Dana, who In 1640 came to
Cambridge. Mass., from England.
