partment. It was said, has rarefied
that peddlers sre buying direct from
the field and are transporting the
vegetable by truck to Portland. Sa
lem. Eugene. Medford. Marsh field
and other Oregon markets where
the ungraded broccoli is sold in
crates marked with brand numbers.
These sales are made direct to re
tall dealers.
State regulations recognise only
two grades, "U. 8. No. 1." and "Ore
gon No. 3." or "Star Brand. The
law requires that all crates be
marked with the grade number and
that the content muit conform to
state standards for these grades.
Several cases have been found. It
la reported, where the local federal
Inspector, E. 1 A. Petty, has rejected
deliveries made by grower because
cf fsllure to conform to grades, and
the growers, without repacking, have
sold to . truck peddlers who have
taker, the rejected product to coast
markets and sold it to the retail
