Father William B. Hamilton, rector
of St. Mark's Episcopal church offici
ated at the ten o'clock wedding last
evening of Miss Era V. Nealon of
thia city to A. Moore Hamilton, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Cy T. Hamilton of
Central Point. The ceremony, which
was attended by a small group of
relatives and close friends, was per
formed at the rector's home.
The bride wore a tailored fall cos
tume In black and white, with smart
accessories. Gardenias predominated
in her corsage.
The couple left on a brief trip to
coast points, after which they will
be at home to their friends at Durrell
court.
Mrs. Hamilton Is a graduate of the
University of Oregon, and Is well
known here, being society editor of
the Mall Tribune. The groom was
graduated from Oregon State college,
and Is affiliated with Chi Phi, social
fraternity. He is a member of the
report or I al staff of the Dally News.
Martha Jane Cool
Honored at Party
Little Miss Martha Jane Cool was
honored on her fifth birthday, Octob
er 16, at a party given by her mother
for a group of 10 guest. The house
and table were gay with colorful dec
orations for the occasion and games
were enjoyed during the afternoon.
A large birthday cake with lighted
candles formed the centerpiece of
the table and baskets of candy were
placed -as favors.

Colonel Gordon Voorhies, who at
tended the hearing for promotion of
the Crescent City harbor, in Wash
ington, D. C, has stopped In Ken
tucky to visit at his old home in
Lexington, He Is expected to return
home this week.

Armed with socks oi all colore and
descriptions, needles, thread and
scissors, the High School troop la
busy with the fascinating process ot
creating puppeta. Socks, with nicely
rounded heels and toes, are the best
puppet materials, and variety tn col
ore and patterns surely make a wide
variety of puppeta I Piglet, Pooh Bear
and Peter Babbit seem to be the most
popular subjects, and their costumes
range from collegiate sweaters and
caps to poke bonnets and hoop skirts.
The next meeting on Thursday will
see the completion of these puppets,
after which the troop plans to create
a puppet stage and scenery and de
velop som 'dramatic' episodes. If
other troops are Interested In this
project the High School scouts will
be glad to help them.
Jackson school Olrl Scouts will meet
rfter school Monday for troop or
ganization. This will not be regu
lar meeting night. Mona Hedges of
the High School troop will assist
this troop.
St. Mark's Guild
Plans for Bazaar
At the regular meeting of the St.
Mark's Guild Friday, plans for the
bazaar to be held December A, were
considered. Following the business
' sessions, Mrs. A. F. Stennett served
tea. The regular cafeteria luncheon
of the guild will be held November
6, the first Friday of the month.

Greek Myth Study
The Delphians held their usual
monthly Chapter meeting at th. 11-'
brary on Thursday morning at 9:30.
The president being absent, the
vice president, Aletha Vawter, pre
sided. After a brief business meet
ing Mrs. Lowry, study supervisor, gave
a comprehensive review of the
month's topic Greek Mythology. She
stressed the necessity for the reader
and student becoming familiar with
the ancient myths and cited Instances
ot the same story being used by an
cient mediaeval and modern poets and
the similarity of their treatment of
the same.
Carrying out this theme Mrs. Mul
holland read the story of "Pro
metheus" as told by several poets of
the different ages.
Mrs. Crews gave an Interesting re
view of Geo. Harton's book, "Home
of Nymphs and Vampires," citing
many weird tales still told on the
Island of Rhodes, where the author
In a lengthy aojourn obtained the
material for his book.
Mrs. Mulholland read several poems
depicting the legends of Aurora,
Endymlon, Phaelon and Icarua and
closed with a humorous poem of O.
W. Holmes, "The First Fan."
In response to an Inquiry for cur
rent events, Mrs. Deck gav6 an In
structive account ot the world court
and Mrs. Crews told of the establish
ing of a Sisters Home for Jewish
women.
Mrs. Furnas closed the program
with a delightful account of her re
cent visit east as guest of the "Good
Tear" people.

Much interest Is being voiced In
the announcement that Ed Andrews,
well known local dramatist, Is going
to give lessons In Shakespeare, be
ginning Wednesday evening at 8
o'clock at the T. W. C. A.
The first play to be presented Is
Hamlet. After thorough study of
this drama, often considered Shake
speare's best, the class will devote
more time to the characterizations
and later prepare skits from the play
ror presentation.
The class will be open to both men
and women.
The tap dancing class Is still open
to membership and Rev. W. R. Balrd's
class In public speaking will open

Mrs. Reed To Talk
At Church Tonight
Mrs. R. L. Reed of Portland, who
made her home In Ashland for many
years, will speak this evening at the
Methodist Episcopal church at 7:30
o'clock. All local folks who have
heard her addresses on past occasions
are anticipating the opportunity of
fered this evening. Mrs. Reed Is an
inspiring speaker and has chosen as
her subject, "Challenge of a Chang
ing Country."

Pleasant Meeting
The Talent Parent Teachers asso
ciation met Thursday evening, Octob
er 22 at the Talent school building.
A number of the parents and people
of the community enjoyed an Inter
esting program. Following the busi
ness meeting refreshments were serv

The Golden Link Bible class of the
First Baptist church met In an after
noon session at the home of Mrs.
Stanley Lydlard on Blddle Road
Thursday. Plans were made to take
up special work on the Bible, the
study to be conducted by Mrs. Daily.

the business meeting adjourned, a
social hour was enjoyed. Refresh
ments were served by Mesdames Lyd
lard, Crawford and Swing.

After a short business session the

Mrs. Chas. Reames
Crater Lake Guild met last Monday
evening with Mrs. C. W. Reames at
her home on Geneva street. She was
assisted by Mrs. F. G. Bunch, Mar
garet Kerr and Winifred Andrews.
Devotions were given by Miss Emily
Brown, who reviewed the magazine
article, "Strong Men." by Albert Ter
hune. In the absence of Miss Hol
lenback, Gertrude Watzllng read a
paper dealing with "Paintings of the
Old Masters." It was brought out
that art was developed primarily In
the service of the Christian church.

The Guild will meet again Monday
evening, Nov. 2, In the Presbyterian
church parlors with Mrs, Chambers,
Marie Ridings, Dorothy Carless and

new Washington school grounds.
When Mrs. McCredle, the state regent, '
was here she offered to give the chap- ;
ter a tree from her own grounds In ,
Portland for this purpose. It la an
elm which Is a direct descendent from
the famous Washington elm In the
east. This tree will bo planted soon 1
by the committee of which Mrs. Louis
Ulrlch Is chairman.
The muslo for the last meeting of
the chapter was a piano duet by Mrs.
H. B. Marsh and Mrs. Herman Pu
rucker. Mra. Orey has called a meeting of
the board for next Monday after

Club Progressing
Members of the Business and Pro
fessional Women's club are complet
ing extensive plans for the Hallowe
'en dance to be held at the Oriental
Gardens on October 31. They hope to
add materially to their scholarship
loan fund through this event. Ike
Porter's band will furnish music for
the event and the Gardens will be
colorful with Hallowe'en decorations.

The usual meeting of the Wednes
day Study Club was held in the Lib
rary on October 2lst, with Mrs. w. J.
Warner. Mrs. W. M. VanScoyoc, and
Mrs. B. Q. Harding in charge of the
program.
A paper on the National Character
istics. Resources and Industries of
Norway, was followed by a review of
that part of Harry Franks book of
travels. A Scandinavian summer,
which describes Denmark, and the
cities of Norway.
Current events pertaining to these
Scandinavian countries, with general
discussion by the club brought to a
close a most interesting afternoon.

The Loyal Women's Bible class of

Conference Opens
In Northern City
A delegation of Missionary workers
of this city will attend the Joint con
ference of tn Woman's Home Mis
sionary society and the Woman's
Foreign Missionary society of the
Cascade district of the Methodist
Episcopal church, which opens in
Roseburg Tuesday afternoon to con
tinue through Wednesday morning.
The first meeting Is scheduled for
1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Throe
important speakers will be heard.
They are Mrs. R. L. Reed, president
of the Oregon conference; Mrs. E. Q.
Maple, corresponding secretary of the
Oregon conference, and Mrs. Bovnrd,
foreign missionary worker.
