LINDSAY ON TRAIN
EN ROUTE NORTH
Frank Lindsay, master criminal of
the Pacific Coast, who was arrested
last week In Los Angeles after a two
years' search, when he confessed to
wife murder at Seattle, passed
through this city yesterday by train
after the plane In which his cap
tors were returning to Seattle, was
forced down at Corning, Calif, and
was allghtly damaged. The plane
was turned back by unfavorable fly
ing conditions over the Slsklyous
and on the return to Oakland landed
at Corning.
Lindsay was held In a compart
ment and his Identity guarded by
his captors. Tbe sheriffs office and
state police were watchful for the
past two days at the Med ford air
port. It was thought possible Lind
say might be held In the county
Jail. It conditions Justified.
Lindsay confessed to murdering
his wife, and burying her body, after
which be fled with an adopted
daughter, 13, whom he abandoned
In Oakland, Calif.

VISIT M MEDFORD
Mr. and Mrs. Roy C. Lyle of Se
attle and O. R. Stipe of Portland,
spent last evening In Medford and
left today for Crescent City.
Mr, Lyle is supervisor of permits
In the 0. S. bureau of Industrial
alcohol, for the 12th district, com
prised of Idaho, Montana, Oregon,
Washington and Alaska and Mr.
Stipe la Inspector for Oregon in
the same department. They are on
a tour of inspection.
Mrs. Lyle Is accompanying them.
This Is her first visit to southern
Oregon and she is greatly impressed
with the scenic beauty. The party
visited Crater lake, en route from
eastern Oregon. ,

Joint Missionary
Conference Plan
Is Reported Here
A Joint conference of the Woman's
Home Missionary and the Woman's
Foreign Missionary societies of the
Cascade district of the Methodist
Episcopal church has been called for
Tuesday, October 27, In Boseburg.
The meeting will open at 1:30
p.m and continue until Wednes
day noon. Three Important speakers
will be heard. They are: Mrs. R.
L. Reed, president of the Oregon
conference; Mrs. E. O. Maple, cor
responding secretary of the Oregon
conference and Mrs. Bovard, foreign
missionary worker.

PENDLETON, Ore., Oct. 23. (AP)
R. W. Colgate. Los Angeles attorney
with the firm representing Tom Our
dane and Buck Lleuallen In the
Hickman reward case, was here to
day taking depositions from local
people regarding the sensational cap
ture of the slayer in 1027.
The reward of $5000 for the cap
ture has not yet been paid. The
case is scheduled for hearing in December.
U. S. OFFICERS QUIZ
Department of Justice agents to
day were questioning Pearl white,
20, Martha Williams. 35, and Arthur
Crabtree, arrested In a raid In the
Prospect area Wednesday, and held
for possession of liquor and alleged
operation of a house of assignation.
The federal authorities are seeking
to determine if the White woman
was transported here In violation
of the Mann act, and other federal
statutes. The trio came to the Pros
pect district recently from Cali
fornia, it Is claimed, and established
I quarters In a tent house near the
I California-Oregon construction work.

Yesterday's Health Workers" Insti
tute was devoted to plans for, and
problems of handling the 1931 Christ
mas Tuberculosis Seal sale. Mrs. Sa
die Orr, Dunbar, president of tbe
State Teachers' association, in her
talk to the workers stressed the point
that tuberculosis takes advantage of
hard times; that this year particular
ly the quota for the seal sale should
be met. "Tuberculosis," she said still
claims too many victims to let down
the vigilance during a time of depres
sion. The world's most precious gift
health, must be safeguarded as never
before."
Mrs. Dunbar complimented the
Jackson County health association on
Its efforts tn educating school chil
dren to know the value of the health
seals. "There Is no other county In
tbe state which has done so well,"
she Is quoted at saying.
Today the members of tbe associa
tion met in Ashland for the annual
plcnlo and final meeting of the Institute.

JOHNSON, Kas. (AP) Although
only 19 years old, Bee Jacquart, edi
tor of the Johnson Pioneer, Stanton
county's only newspaper, has had five
years' experience In Journalism.
When she was 14 she began re
porting for a paper in Larned. Kas.,
her birthplace, at the same time cor
responding for dallies in larger towns.
In publishing the pioneer Miss
Jacquart has but one assistant, a
mnchlnlBt. This winter she plans to
attend Washburn college at Topeka,
but when the term Is over will re
turn to take charge of the newspaper.
In less than a year she has doubled
Its business.
