PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 23. (AP)
By a ghastly turn of fat three girls,
all young, all pretty, bound close by
the ties of friendship, have met
violent, traglo deaths within a year.
The gruesome Haying of Agnes
La Bol and Hedvlg Bamuelson of
Phoenix recalled today that a year
ago this month Ruth Nellie Rinehart
young Portland and Salem nurse,
and their close friend, disappeared
mysteriously from the steamer Prin
cess Louise while en route from
Wrangel, Alaska, to Portland.
Mrs. Le Rol saw Miss Rinehart off
on the Princess Louise when she left
Wrangel to soil south. Her disap
pearance from the boat never was
explained.
Members of Mrs. L Rol' family
said today that when the girl was
her last June sh spoke of the trag
edy but appeared reluctant to discuss
details of her relationship with the
nurse or of her disappearance.
SALEM, ore., Oct. 22. (AP) Dr.
W O. Judd, whose wlf is sought In
connection with the trunk murder of
Mrs. Agnes Le Rol and Miss Hedvlg
Bamuelson at Phoenix, was an In
mate of the Oregon state hospital for
the Insane from December 27, 1019,
to February 21, 1020. The hospital
records show that h was committed
from Marlon county a drug addlot.
Dr. Judd had served with the Unit
ed States force overseas during the
World war and hi committment fol
lowed hi return her. Later, follow
ing hi discharge from the hospital,
he Is said to have been official phy
alolan for the Brookings Lumber
company at Brookings, Ore., near the
California Una.

Bob Hayes received the most vote
for boys' yell leader, and Lol Nlohol
for the girls' yell leader. Catherine

FOR REXFORD ABBOTT
Funeral services were held for
Rexford Chesterfield Abbott, son of
Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Abbott of Sams
Volley, at the Dodge chapel In Ash
land this afternoon. Rexford Abbott,
who passed away Tuesday In Klam
ath Falls, wa born February 17,
1008, and grew to manhood In Sams
Valley. He had been living In
Klamath Fall for the past three
month.

CLAIMS INTEREST
The third day of the public health
conference here was marked by a
large and enthusiastic attendance.
Representatives from Ashland, Cen
tral Point, Oold Hill, . Jacksonville,
Phoenix and Medford met Wednes
day at the T, w. O. A. rooms, and
under the leadership of Miss Sadie
Orr Dunbar, discussed tfte problem
of acquainting the public with their
work. ,
This phase Is of pressing Import
ance, as no health program can
function to Its full extend without
that cooperation which follows com
plete understanding by the whole
community.
Dr. Ea telle Ford Warner followed
the conference with a short talk,
emphasizing the same point. In her
studies of the public health associa
tions of Alabama, Virginia, Pennsyl
vania and other states. She found It
evident that the scientific applica
tion of their programs was far In ad
vance of the public's understanding
and appreciation.
The final conference In Medford Is
being held this afternoon, and the
Institute will conclude with a picnic
tomorrow In Ashland's community
center. All Interested In health work
are urged to attend.
