ANCIENT EGYPT

Miss Julia K. Sommer, who ob
tained her master of arts degree at
Columbia university, and who la now
representative of the Theosopbical
World University asoclatlon, will give
a free Illustrated lecture at St. Mark's
ball Saturday evening at 8 o'clock.
She has announced her subject as
"Ancient Egypt's Story," based on the
finding of archaeological research as

tially understood by modern students,
according to Miss Sommer.
The slides to be shown will include
pictures of decorations on the walls

P. T. A. Plans Open House
And Fathers' Night
The Junior High P. T. A. will meet
Friday evening at the school audi
torium at 7:30 o'clock for open house
and fathers' night. The teachers are
preparing exhibits of pupils' work in
the various rooms, where the parents
will be received.
In room 17 the Parent-Teacher
charts and congress library will be
on exhibit. This room Is the Parent
Teaohers' headquarters and those
who are Interested can go there and
read books from the congress library.
B. R, Finch, principal of the school
will be the speaker of the evening
and will tell what Is being done in
the way of organization rules and
regulations of the Junior high
school.
Miss WBrophy will speak on the
home, and Miss Annette Gray on
school education. The business meet
ing will be conducted by Mrs. O. E.
Grant, president of the P. T. A.
Delegates will be named to attend
the state convention of Parent
Teachers in Eugene, October 20 to 33.
Miss Arnold will lead the singing of
Parent-Teacher songs. Miss Grace
Colborne, art Instructor, has super
vised the making of posters for the
P. T. A. room.
The boys of the manual training
class under the supervision of Mr.
Fitch, framed the children's charter
and made a flag standard for the
room.
The program will be followed by
refreshments. Mrs. O. W. Nellson Is
chairman of the committee.
Miss Stokes Marries
Harold DeVoe In Miami.
Announcement was made yester
day In the Grants Pass Courier of
the marriage of Miss Louise Stokes,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Stokes of Grants Pass, to Harold
DeVoe, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A.
DeVoe of this city. The wedding
was an event of the past week In
Miami, Fla.
Both young people are very well
known here. The bride was em
ployed at Brown and White In this
city before going to Grants Pass,
where she was a member of the '
reportorlal staff of the Courier until j
two months ago, when she left for
Mlamt with the D. L. White hurst

met yesterday noon at the Hotel
Medford for luncheon and a busi
ness meeting. Mrs. George Andrews,
president, presided.
