Invitations are out this week for
the wedding of Miss Mary Edwards,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Ed
wards, to Chester A. Hubbard, son of
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Hubbard, which
will be an event of Saturday, Oct. 17
at the First Presbyterian church.
The ceremony will be read at 3
o'clock by the Rev. Claude B. Porter,

Plans Luncheon
Members of Zuleima temple.
Daughters of the Nile, will meet Sat
urday, October 10 at 3:00 p. m. In
the Masonlo temple here, following
luncheon at the Hotel Holland at
13:30. Mrs. H. G. Enders of Ashland,
queen of the temple, will ' preside.

Home an School Circle
Has ripnsant Meeting
The Home and School circle of the
Roosevelt school held the first meet
ing of toe school year Friday after
noon. Judging by the attendance
and the enthusiasm of the meeting,
thll cirole will have a year full ot
accomplishments. ' There were pres
ent about 75 parents and teachers
and plans were made for social func
tions and entertainments, as well as
for practical objectives. After the
circle was entertained by the school
glee club, the business session was
held followed by a social hour and
refreshments. .
Mrs. Phlpps gave a report on Oar
den club work and urged parents to
cooperate with the child In the gar
den work.
Plans were made and committees
appointed for the annual Hallowe'en
party to be held at the school Friday,
Oct. 30.
It was voted to give $5 to the
Community Chest fund.
Miss Templeton to Head
Women's Committee
Miss Viola Templeton was appoint
ed chairman of women's activities for
the coming year at the meeting of
the feminine members of the Califor
nia Oregon Power company staff
Wednesday evening at the Hotel Hol
land. Miss Frances Welsner was
named vice chairman.
Covers were placed for 20 at the
dinner and a program of varied
events arranged for the coming sea
son.

For Luncheon Monday
The Past Matrons club will begin
activities for the year tomorrow with
a non-hostess luncheon at the Hotel
Medford. Luncheon will be followed

Van Valzahs Have
Happy Stay Here
Mr. and Mrs. S. L. VanValzah of
Denver, Col., and Dr. and Mrs. C. G.
VanValzah of Portland were guests
last week of Dr. and Mrs. R. C. Van
Valzah of this city and the Incentive
for considerable entertaining.
Monday afternoon Mrs. Van Valzah
entertained at bridge complimenting
her two sisters-in-law and Dr. Van
Valzah accompanied his brothers on
hunting and fishing trips to several
favorite haunts of southern Oregon
during the past week.
The S. L. Van Valzahs left this city
for Springfield, w.here they are guests
of other relatives.

of the Methodist Episcopal church
met In cabinet session at Crowson's
cafe Saturday afternoon. The presi

Meets Wetlnesdny
The Mistletoe club met with Nora
Jones on Pennsylvania street on
Wednesday, Sept. 23. A 'cry good
attendance was enjoyed. Work was
begun on the aprons for the bazaar.
Refreshments were served by the
hostess assisted by Minnie Ramey,
Calla Geer, Cassett Jones and Myrtle
Arnold.
The next meeting will be with
Georgia Greaves, 633 Pine, on Wed'
nesday, Oct. 7.

will be solemnized In Portland to
day, when Miss Geneva Hurt, daugh
ter of Mrs. J. B. Hurt, will become
the bride of Mr. Willsie Pruitt, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pruitt..
Following the wedding the bride
and groom will leave for British
Columbia. They will spend their
honeymoon at Lake Louise and
Banff, then return to this city to
make their home, where Mr. Pruitt
Is In business.
Both young people are well known
here, where they have lived for a
number of years. Miss Hurt has
been away from Medford for some
time teaching in the Boise, Idaho,
schools.

Oakdale at a bridge party for a group

at St. Mark's Guild hall Tuesday
evening when members of the T.

their friends. About fifty young
business women enjoyed the games
and program presented.

Interest in Move
For Better Music
On Increase Here
The great flock of southern Oregon
people, who have been hungry for
good musical entertainment for sev
eral years, are anticipating the op
portunity to Join the Civic Music as
sociation, when the branch Is formed
with Medford as center uext month.
The membership drive, according to
present plans, will be Inaugurated
October 10. It will be necessary to
get a membership of at least 400 to
bring the organization here.
Only members of the organization
will be admitted to the three con
certs to be presented during the win
ter season, featuring some of the
leading artists of the United Stales.
No tickets wilt be secured after the
organization Is formed. It Is purely
an invitational project for the enjoy
ment of music lovers.
Formation of the branch here will
add another forward step in the ever
prevalent effort to keep Medford on
the cultural map. She will be Joined
In this effort by music minded folk
of Grants Pass, Ashland, and other
sections of the valley.

Lincoln Parent-Teachers held their
first meeting on Friday afternoon
Due to the resignation of the presi
dent and vice-president Who have
moved from this district, Mrs. G. O.
D'Albinl, president of the P. T. A.
council, presided. .
The new officers elected are Mrs.
Elmer Wilson, president, and Mrs.
Chas. Luman, vice-president. The
business session was devoted to sign
ing up of old and new members and
to appointing of regular committees
for the year.
A short but Interesting program
was given, consisting of three songs
by the 6B grade, a piano solo by
Corrlne Harwood and two readings
by Roscoe Leigh.

Garden Club Hears
Talk on Shrubs
Mrs. J. F. Reddy, who recently re
turned from a trip to Portland and
Seattle, during w.hlch she Interviewed
leading landscape gardeners, brought
an Interesting message to members
of the Garden club at their meeting
Thursday evening at the Hotel Med
ford. Shrubs, which she feels could
easily be grown in this climate were
listed by Mrs. Reddy and their names
wilt be published at a later date.
A large crowd attended the meet
ing ot the club and Mrs. Reddy's talk
was followed by discussion. Several
requests have come In to the Gardon
club, asking that arrangements be
made to care for the lot behind the
Medford armory.

for one of the most pleasant af
fairs of the week, when the Build
ing Bridge club and a few others
were guests of Mrs. Satchwell on
Thursday afternoon.

ers. The dining table with its ori
ental lace cover and floral center
piece was presided over by Mrs. A.
Duff and Miss Anna Kcllehor, who
