Ignoring the general depression

present and future, Walter Leverette,
well known Medford business man
and moving picture theater owner
with theaters already In Grants Pass,
Ore, and Yreka, Calif., which he has
operated for some time past, began
the construction of his third new
theatre In Weed, Calif., last Tuesday.
This will give him a chain of three
moving picture meatres in a ratner
compact territory. Looking after the
general operation of the State the
ater at Grants Pass and the Broad
way theater In Yreka, together with
his Medford business Interests has
kept Mr. Leverette moving lively for
a long time past, and with the new
theater will keep him on a practically
continuous hectic Jump, to travel
about ' between the four places. He
has been putting In extra hours of
hard work dally, as It Is.
The new Weed theater, which will
be the only first-class one In that
lumber town the other side of the'
Slsklyous, will be of the same design,
architecture and construction, and
800 seating capacity, as his hand-
some Broadway theater at Yreka,
only that it will be better in that
new general Ideas In theater building
and equipment since the latter the
ater was built, will be Incorporated
In the Weed theater.

Sunday evening, a debate, "Resolved:
That the Bible should be Included
In the course of study in the public
schools," will be conducted by a team
of boys and girls, with Miss Ruth
Severance as coach.
The boys will take the negative,
with Calvin Stoddard, Bill Abbott
and Fred Hoefs as members of the
team. The affirmative will be up
held by Frances Smith, Talllenne
and Helen Smith.

when Evangelist Shannon spoke to a
full house on the subject, "The Devil ;
as a Preacher." There may have been
those who thought there was some,
Joke about the subject before the
speaker began bis sermon, but before
he had gone far In his discourse ail
were certain that there was no Joke
about Satan being the world's great-:
est preacher.
Taking his text from Matt., the
fourth chapter, where we are told
that Jesus was tempted forty days by
the devil, the evangelist said: "Satan
was the first preacher on earth, tie
was here to greet our first parents
with a false idea of God and His
divine Justice. The falsehoods which
men are falling for are Just the same
today as those that were used to ty
the soul of the Christ."
This is the closing week of thlB
series of meetings and services will
be conducted each night. A special
program by the young people la pro
mised for Friday night.
Dr. Eaton of the First Baptist
church led In the evening prayer. De
Vere Penhollow sang with much feel
ing "The Old Rugged Cross." The
playing of Mrs. H. O. Purucker at
the piano was greatly appreciated by
the audience.

who decisively defeated the Eagle
Point Cheesemakera at Albany last
Sunday, through the effective pltcn

turn game at the fairgrounds next
Sunday, when the southern Oregon
champions hope to secure revenge,
and the long end of the score. It
promises to be the besi and probably
the last game of the season. The
Eagle Point team claims they struck
a bad spell of umpiring, and a batting
slump at Albany md did not hit up
to their usual standard.
Mr. Estes Entertains
High School Folk
TALENT, Ore.. Oct. I. (Spl.) Mrs.
Charles Estes entertained on Wed
nesday evening at her home on the
highway at Talent the freshman,
sophomore and Junior classes of the
high school at the first social event
of the school year honoring her
daughter. Miss Fay Estes and the
Misses Ha and Ollle Hill.
Mrs. Estes was assisted In receiving
by Mrs. HU1, Mrs. Lacy and Mrs.
Poole.
The evening was spent In novel
games and stunts under the leader
ship of Mrs. Lacy.
After supper served late In the
evening the happy young people de
parted thanking Mrs. Estes for an
unusually pleasant evening.
TRUCK AND AUTO
DRIVERS NABBED
For driving a truck on the Pa
cific highway with an Improper load
in that the height. Including the
load, was over 12 feet, which is con
trary to the state law, Frank Cur
tis, arrested by State Traffic Police
man Baucom, pleaded not guilty in
the Justice court today, through the
owner of the truck, V. B. Hawley.
The trial was then set for tomor
row at 10:30 a.m.
Kenneth Milhoan, driver of a
truck owned by the Rogue River
Fruit company, pleaded guilty to
day In the same court to operating
truck and trailer without a tall
light, and no sidelights, and was
fined $15 and costs.
For operating a car with Improper
license plates Arthur Harris pleaded
guilty Wednesday and his license
was suspended Indefinitely until he
obtained the proper license plates.
