John D. Olwell, picturesque and
aggressive leader or-the city in the
"boom asys," and a pioneer of the
Irtllt Industry In th Rogue River
valla, died In a aanltartum today at.
Oakland, Calif, following a long Ill
new, according to word received by
Mrs. J. r. Ready. Be waa about 8
yean of age. In hU time he waa one
of the best known men of southern
Oregon, and well known and remem
bered by scores of older resident.
Olwell apent his eany boynood and
young manhood In the valley, moving
Here with his parent from the east.
With his father, for a number of
yean he operated a flour mill at
Phoenix. Later, hie father planted
what la known as Snowy Butt Orch
ards, near Central Point. He waa one
of a family of four brothers and
three sisters.
Olwell waa a practical orchardtet,
and well acquainted with land la
Jackson county. He figured In many
Of the large orchard dealt consum
mated in 1910 and 1911, when en
gaged In the realty business. At on
time he waa associated with William
M. Holmes, and later with J. K.
(Moee) Barkdull. He waa a genial,
free-handed man and untiring work
er in his field.
About twenty yean ago he moved
to New York city, where he engaged
In the brokerage and promotion bus
iness. Later h moved to Florida,
and when his health broke, moved to
California. He has been falling for
four yean.
He la survived by hie wife, Ina Day
Olwell, relatives and a large circle of
friends. He enjoyed a wide acquain
tance on the Pacific coast.
Funeral arrangement have not
been definitely decided upon, but It
Is understood he will be brought
here for the final rites and Interment.

Th Boy Scout Jambore to be held
In th Armory October 18th. will be

Postpone Bank Case
Trial To November
The ault of the Medford National
bank against R, A. Blanchard, sched
uled for hearing today In the circuit
court, was postponed by agreement
of attorneys until November 2. In
the first trial a verdict was rendered
In favor of Blanchard. Toe bank car
ried the case to th supreme court,
where an opinion reversing the lower
court was handed down. The bank
seeks payment of a eum approximat
ing $6000 on a transaction lnvwr.ng

"It should be remembered that all
the membera of a stock Judging team
of a county entered In competition
had to be from the same 4-H club
of that county. All our 4-H clubs
have had the same training In live
stock Judging and are very good, but
our team always entered In th state
fair Is th winning team of the local
fair. This team this year consisted
of Harry Chllders, Muriel Morse, a
girl, and George McCracken, all of
the Valley View club. By so doing
they won s 840 cash priz.
Ocorge McCracken, who won th
highest Individual scoring honor,
captured the medal given by th
American Jersey Csttl club,
Mrs. Mabel Mack, county homo
demonstration agent, with the mem
bers of th demonstration teams of
th 4-H clubs of the county, did not
arrive horn last avenlng as expected
from Salem, but ar now expected
by this venlng.
The winner of th girls' demon
stration teams will not b known
until' th last of the week, as the
demonstrations will not be complet
ed until finished Friday night.
