(AP) Mrs. Benjamin P. ColUngs, In
her first public recital today of how
two men boarded the Penguin and
murdered her husband In Long Is

to abduct her believing that, by so
doing, she might save her husband
and child.
As the assailants placed her in a
canoe, she told Coroner William B.
Gibson at the inquest, that she saw
a boat approaching the Colltngs

them quietly hoping that, with
their attention concentrated on her.

Her testimony also revealed for
the first time publicly that five
year old Barbara Colllngs was awake
during the struggle on the Penguin
and saw the slayers tie her father's

bottle down 'on his head and threw

Barbara called out to them.
Mrs. Colllngs appeared to be un

BUDGET REVISED

law, and doubled the 1030 budget.
By agreement of all concerned 93000
was clipped from the new budget.

Commissioner Galloway took the
budget to Salem for revision, with
the balance of the state tax com
mission and It will be returned In a
week or ten days.

the school of commerce here, a post
tlon left vacant with the retirement
of J. A. Bexell, who became dean
emeritus after 33 years as head of
the school.
Dean Hoyt will take over his new
duties Octqber 1, which will include
the headship of the deportment of
business organisation and operation,
one of the five main divisions of the
school of commerce. Officials here
say thst Hoyt, at 46, has a record
of professtonsl and administrative
success, added to high aeademlo
training.
REV. RAY'S FAREWELL
JACKSONVILLE, Ore., Sept. 23.
(Spl) Rev. W. K. Ray of Jackson
ville preached his farewell sermon
over KMED Sunday evening. The
studio was filled with friends of Mr.
Ray. Those who helped with the
program of the evening were mem
bers who were with Mr. Ray when
he established the Valley Radio
church three years ago.
A great many from Jacksonville
listened In on this service.
Reverend and Mrs. Ray will be
greatly missed by their many friends
In Jacksonville. They left Thursday
for their new home In San Diego,
Calif., but plan to make return trips
to this region occasionally.

done. It was definitely decided that
aid from the welfare workers could
only be given to residents of Jack
son county. All those who are able
will be required to work for the food
end clothing they obtain.

man of the committee to gather the
produce and clothing. He Is to be
sssisted by Snslgn J. R. Psck of the
Salvation Army and Oscar E. Hoover
This committee wiu cooperate with
the Red Cross and the Salvation
Army, according to President Porter.
B. E. Harder and 0. A. Meeker,
I also member of Qovernor Julius L.
Meier's committee, spoke briefly in
support of the plan outlined.
J. O. Thompson was asked to pre
sent to the association at its next
regular meeting, definite plans of
the Community Chest, and the
standings of the groups represented
by the Allied Social Workers.
