TILTS FOR YANKS
By Associated Press.
Henry Louis Gehrig has played
ln 1000 consecutive games for the
Yanks and has not given a sign ol
weakening.
Only two players in the major
leagues ever have beaten that mark.
Everett Scott took part ln 1307
games lor the Boston Red Sox and
the Yankees from 1916 to 1925 and
Joe Sewell, now a Yank, played
1103 for Cleveland. About the time
Scott's record was ending, Gehrig
became New York's regular first
baseman. He began ln June, 1925,
won numerous honors as a star bat
ter, as Babe Ruth's leading home
run rival,- and In 1927 as the most
valuable player to his club.
Gehrig took part in his lootn

Holmes Bald the big fish was

With Rod and Gun
Fish ln Fish lake are still dying
from the unknown disease which
has attacked them. It Is learned here.
Persons at the lake In the past few
days say that t.'ie screen at the lake's
outlet Is plugged with the dying
trout.
Because so little Is known of the
diseases of fish, there seems to be
nothing that can be done to atop the
ravages of the fungus. The fungus
can be stopped ln many fish by
ti eating them with a salt water bath.
Eastern brool: trout are not migra
tory however, and It Is doubtful if
the salt would.be of any benefit to
t,Vm.
Specimens of the diseased fish
have been sent to state game of
ficials and to biologists at Oregon
State college. W. W. Walker sent
several of the fungus-bearing trout
to Mat Ryckman, state superinten
dent of hatcheries.
Persona who favor allowing all fish
to spawn naturally and oppose the
stocking from hatcheries will be In
terested to learn that nearly all lakes
ln southern Oregon, where the best
fishing Is now reported, were stocked
originally, either by Individuals or
organizations.
Diamond lake. Crater Lake. Lake of
1,-ie Woods and the little Fish lake
on the Umpqua were all stocked with
flngerllngs from the Butte Falls
hatchery, fishermen are pointing out.
Work on the proposed federal fish
hstchery for Elk creek will be done
between spawning and hatching
seasons as near as possible so as not
to Interfere with fish In the pools
there now. It Is learned, Deed for
the land Is now ln .1e hands of the
department of Justice where final
plans lor the 160.000 hatchery are
under way.
A valuable part of the new hatch
ery will be sufficient pools to allow
the trout to grow to the six and
eight-Inch sizes before they are re
leased. Previously many of the flng
erllngs have been lost because of the
change of food and water conditions.
T,h new plant will also provide
ample cold storsge space In which
food for the fish can be kept.
