Returns From East
' Mrs. Pearl Wheeler has returned
to this' city after spending the past
month in the east. While away she
divided her time between Columbus,
Ohio, Ogden, St, Louis, Cincinnati
and Chicago, stopping in Sanborn,
Iowa to visit friends on her return.
She also stopped in Seattle niter ar

Mrs. E. Iverson and daughter Mrs.
Maynard Putney, were Joint hostesses
Tuesday afternoon at the former's
home at a lovely party and shower
given for the pleasure of Mrs. Fred
McDonald, a recent bride.
During early afternoon a group
of gomes were enjoyed on the lawn,
climaxing in a treasure hunt, which
brought MrB. McDonald a basket
filled with beautiful gifts.
Luncheon was then served at the
pretty table decorated In pink and
silver, with a bowl of pink roses as
centerpiece. Twelve guests enjoyed
the affair.

city for two weeks.

Fredericks' brother-in-law and sister,

Tuesday Evening
The Pythian club will meet at the
home of Mrs. Minnie Heine. 016 West

The last meeting of the club was

covered dish luncheon and card party

nesday evening.

a long rchearsnl under the leadership
of May Stuart, when Mr. McDannel
requested that all should go to the
banquet hall. They found the tables
heaped high with luscious water
melons and cantaloupes, also a
beautiful rose bud for each guest.
Mr. McDannel stated that both the
roses and melons were grown at the
Villa Nursery.

Thursday Meeting
One of the most interesting meet
ings of the week in local church
circles was the Joint session of the
Jacksonville and Medford Presbyter
ian churches held Thursday evening,
honoring Miss Irene Forsythe of Ore
gon City, missionary, recently return
ed from China.
The meeting opened with a covered
dish supper served In the local
church parlors. A program, arranged
by Mrs. E. Iverson, followed.
Miss Forsythe entertained the
crowd with a review of her work In
China, stressing rather than events
In missionary circles the general con
ditions In China.

ple have gone to the seashore, others
to mountain resorts and those who
do not favor the great outdoors are
traveling to cities.

Wedding Is Told
A wedding that really occurred In
March but that had not been an
nounced until a lew days ago created
quite a bit of surprise In this com-,
muntty. I
Mrs. Kuthryn Ear hurt was married
in Kelso. Washington to Mr. Eckert,
a business man of Eugene March
twenty-fourth, 1931. Mrs. Eckert was
a resident of Evans Creek valley for
about fifteen years, she and her for
mer husband. Mr. A. K. Earhart huv
lng built up a splendid ranch honv
and pear orchard two and one half
miles from Rogue River.
In 1D26 when their only daughter,
Arjene, graduated from the Kogue
River high school they moved to Eu
gene where Arlene enter ted the state
university.
Shortly arter moving to Eugene the
little family lost their much-loved
husband and father but Mrs. Ear
hart remained there to see her
daughter, Arlene, graduating with
honors from the university and elect
ed to a high schol position In North
Dakota, where she taught the school
year with marked success. She was
invited to teach In Rogue River high
school during the coming year which
will open In a few weeks.
Miss Arlene has spent the summer
doing speclul commercial work in
Portland but will be in Rogue River
In time to spend some time upon the
ranch before beginning her teaching
duties In September,, Mrs. Eckert
expects to reside in Eugene except
for occasional trips to Evans valley
to look after her property here.
Mrs. Earhart was president of the
Civic Improvement club of Rogue
River and later president of the S.
O. Federation of Women's clubs and
has many friends In Wimer. Roguo
River and Medford who extend good
