ON INITIAL VISIT

the new stats police department
with headquarters In Salem, arrived
In Medford today to cbnfer with
Lee Brown, constabulary chief In
southwestern Oregon and other state
police stationed In this district.
"The organization Is progressing
rapidly," Superintendent Pray atacfed
"and I find the work of the atari
quite satisfactory." He spoke highly
of the work of Privates James
O'Brien and E. W. Van der Walker,
who last week arrested Ed F: Rice,
known as "Tough Eddie," confessed
robber of a service station at Ash
land. The police arrested the man
a half hour after the crime.
Captain Harry M. Nllea of the
Portland police bureau and Cap
tain Rexford of the Multnoman
county sheriff's traffic force, will
arrive In Medford about the first
of September to conduct the school
of Instruction for members of the
local department, the state head an
nounced. The two captains will be
assisted by two local men, who have
not been selected as yet.
No definite period has been set
for the instruction, but will be held
until the officers have been given
complete training. The school is
being conducted In three headquar
ters cities, Portland, Medford and
Baker. " - ;
Superintendent Pray said that he
had no new plans to announce at
the present time. He left head
quarters In Salem yesterday, and
conferred with officers In Roscburg
en route south.

tubes, the Pathfinder tires and giant
bus and truck balloons.
''This remarkable Ooodyear picture
will be of Interest to all Medford car
owners. It contains many instructive
lessons In modern manufacturing and
merchandising methods which have
been ' enthusiastically received by
theatre guests of the Ooodyoar com
pany In practically every large com
