FULFILL PLEDGE
1REKA, Cal. (Special.) A pledge
made 16 years ago will be fulfilled1
with the opening of the new Shasta
Canyon highway north of Yreka. The
pledge was made by the state of Cali
fornia to the stute of Oregon at a
meeting near the line dividing the
two states, at which each pledged to
the other that they would pave the
Pacific highway to meet at the line.
Soon afterwards, Oregon kept her
part of the contract and paved the
road over the Siskiyou mountains.
California voted a bond measure to
carry out her part of the agreement,
but the funds .were expended by the
time the road was paved as far north
as Redding, leaving a gap of about
150 miles of narrow unpaved road.
As rapidly as possible, however, the
California state highway commission
has been rebuilding and surfacing
this portion of the road and the por
tion through the Shasta River can
yon completes the work.
The dedication of one of the bridges
in tile canyon to the pioneer stage
drivers of northern California and
southern Oregon on August 29 will
mark the completion of the work.
The bridge wll be known as Pioneer's
bridge and the dedication ceremony
vill be under the auspices of the
Lions club of Yreka.
j The governors of both Oregon and
California will be present at the ded
ication, as well as numerous other
officials of both states. The Cali
fornia State Automobile association
will also participate In the program.

You may say "acid gasoline has never

sincere In thinking so. Tho fact is, how

caused by acid gasoline, as has every

constantly exacting its hidden, costly toll.
Unfortunately, you have perhaps not

unnecessary repair and upkeep costs.
Slowly but surety acid in gasoline eats
away at the unseen working parts of

The result Is excess gasoline consump
