David Rosenberg, president of the
Pacific pear council, gave a report
at the luncheon meeting of the Rogue
Valley Traffic aociatlon today In
which he stated that .the Med ford
district is backing the plan to adver
tise the winter pears by an assess
ment on each box marketed. A strong
percentage of local growers have
signed and still others are coming
Into the group, he sum.
California growers will not Join the
advertising movement this year, ac
cording to communication from that
section read toauy. it was pointed
out that many- northwest growers
feel California should not Join any
how as there Is little In common be
tween the northwest pears and those
produced In that section.
Several of the growers present said
that they were not seljlng cull pears
to the local cannery as they felt this
was Injurious to the pear market In
general. A local cannery, It Is under
stood, has contracted to buy cull
Bartletts from two packing plants
for canning,
The matter of sending a representa
tive of the local fruit growing Indus
try to Portland for the forthcoming
hearing on the proposed 15 per cent
freight Increase. This was refered to
the executive committee.
Other business concerned largely
the packing season and market con
ditions of thto and other, pear grow
ing districts.

Sums Involved In the cases vary.
Alt are delinquent members of the
Medford Irrigation district which re
cently announced It was unable to
pay Interest on bonds and would be
reorganized.
