Catholic priest In the state of Vera
Cruz were free today to decide for
themselves whether to leave their
churches or to continue their religi
ous offices in defiance of Governor
Adalberto Teleda and of the recently
enacted state religious luw.
One priest is dead as a result of
the disturbances, and two are In
jured. Governor Tejeda was shot
thru the ear Saturday by a young
man now under arrest who has re
fused to give the authorities his
name.
Troops were placed at danger
points In the state.
Futher Darlo Acosta, who was shot i
to deal,1! In a raid on the Asuncion
church In the city of Vera Cruz Sat
urday, was burled there yesterday
without disorders.

Bishop Gutsar said two men en
tered the house of the vicar general
and attempted to kill him, but he
escaped and was In hiding.
Reports of Vie riot In Jalapa gave
no details. It was said that all
chui dies there and In the city of
Vera Cruz were closed. Four Jalapa
churches were damaged by fire Sat
urday as a result of mob violence.

bridge head and, carrying; an old

sought to prevent traffic over the
toll bridge while toll bridge owners in
Texas, were prevent ing use of I he
free bridge built in part with Okla
homa tax money. The Texas Injunc
tion was later removed and the free
bridge opened. When the federil
court granted the injunction Satur
day forbidding state mtenerenre at
the toll bridge, he denounced the or
der and I Id he would place placards
personally directing traffic to the iree
bridge.
