the Slnnott memorial, an observa
tion station and museum conutruct-
ed during the past year 'In Cra
ter ljilie national park, will be
hold this month during the visit 'of
the United States cngrosaional ap
proprlatfona committee, C. So

tontatlvcly announced. hTe com
mittee Is making a general tour of
national parka tills summer, mak
ing It possible for colleagues of the
former Oregon congressman to take
part In the dedication program.
The building is nearly ready for
Installation of enuipmont and la lo
cated Junt below the rim at a point
most visited by tourists, affording
an extraordinary view of the lake,
it can scarcely be seen from the
rim and from a distance, bo well
does It fit Into the nearbly cliffs.
On Victor Rook
Constructed of native stone, the
house stands on Victor Rock 1000
feet above the water. In memory
of Nicholas J. Slnnott, recognized
as a friend of national parks and
the author of many park laws, in
cluding the general national park
highway act of April 9, 1914.
Mr. Slnnott was born In 1870 and
died In 11129. He served In con
gress from 1913 to 1928 and was
chairman of the public lands com
mittee from 1919 to 1928. A large
bronze plaque, to bo placed in front
of the building, in addition to car
rlyng a short history of the con
gressman, also Includes a portion
of the well-known description he
gave of Crater Lake before con
gress in 1918.
The plaque will bo unveiled dur
ing the dedication.
Ansol F. Hall, senior naturalist
and foroster of the national park
system, arrived at Crater Lake a
few days ago to act as consultant
In tho planning and installation of
exhibits In the memorial. The front
of the building Is open.

scopes and flold glasses, the lake
wilt toll Its own scientific story.
Through thoso agencies, dlHtant
rock formations will be brought to
visitors, who may obtain more de
tailed Information from an Interior
exhibit room, In which a collection
of transparencies, rocks and other
exhibits will be placod.
The sum of 5000 was appropri
ated for the eqlttpment of the
building by the National Academy
of Sciences, a special committee
of which Is directly interested In
the memorial.

oster, Mr. Hall Is acting as repre
sentative for the committee, coin
nosed of Dr. John 0. Merrlam, of
