can women, proving among other

market that has escaped the evils
of mass production. '
Mrs. Ruth D. Maurery nation
ally prominent, as an authority on
beauty, culture, has just made pub
lic the' results of a survey which
ahe conducted among beauty shops
in every state of the Union and
they proved that American women
are smart enough to know that
what may be decorative for one
woman may be grotesque for an
other. "We made a poll of beauty
shops throughout tho United
States,'' Mrs. -Maurer explained,
"to t ascertain whether it is true
as frequently charged that
American women 'run to types'
and lack individuality in makeup
and personal adornment. We
gathered figures from thousands
of shops and discovered that the
charge .is false.
'American women are no longer
copying the beauty methods of the
Tlorid Knglish or the flamboyant
Latin beauties. They have come
to realize that they must develop
the, distinctive natural beauty re
sources that they' possess them
selves and the beauty shops re
port their demand is for individ
ualistic makeups by a score of al
most five to one. .
"The survey showed further that
American women are becoming
conscious of varying climatic con
ditions with the result that cos
metics which atfe popular In Min
