BREAKFAST HERE
Ml
There may be depression in
many markets but pep hit a new
hlKh level at an early hour this
morning and was continuing:
"strong" when Elks, Craters and
Actlvians left the Hotel Med ford,
following a "glorious" breakfast,
resolved to make the state B.
P, O. E. convention In Ashland,
June 30, Ju 1 and 2. an out
standing event in southern Oregon
convention history.
Tfte pep fest opened at 7:00
o'clock with about 80 Elks from
Ac h Und and Med ford sharing en
thusiasm with a representative
delegation of Craters and Actlv
ians. "Ike" Prideger, exalted ruler of
the Ashland Elks; Jerry Thornton,
mayor and veteran secretary of the
I lodge, with Prof. I. E. Vlning. led
the campaign for the neighboring
lodge, appearing before, the micro
phone to tell the world how Ash
land will entertain the Elks. Bill
Gates warned them several times
to remember the laws of the fed
eral radio commission and watch
their language. Several speeches
were halted- in mid-air to "evade
intervention by authorities." R.
Ef Koozer, ruler of tile Medford
lodge, also appeared' before the
microphone and promised the
unanimous support of the local
Elks to. the Ashland ' convention.
The speeches were continuing
enthusiastic but showed signs of
cramped vocabularies until Bill
Gates and Jerry Jerome, big erup
tion of the Craters "spilled the
benns" that the microphone was
not connected .with the outside
world and that no speechva were
reaching the limits outride the ho
tel banquet room.
An -especially clever -stunt wns
added to the program by - Earle
Davis and his Hl-Steppers.
This morning's breakfast was one
of a series planned by the , Ash
land lodge to generate, pep pro
ceeding the state convention in
which Medford promise to play
an active part. .
Plans for participation of the
local Elks in the three-day eon
ven t lo n p rog ra m were d Iscu ssed
nnd outlined at the regular meeting
of the lodge last night.
Elks will also rate again tonight
when the ,RKO theater ? the atf
will present a nation-w'.de broad
cast over the NBC network, an
program dedicated to the Benev
olent and Protective Order of Elk
Famous Elk soloists, the RKOUan
orchestra of 38 musicians, a glee
club and other distinguished en
tertalners will be heard in a pra
gram,-, which promises to ho oi
Interest to every Elk in America.
The program is being arranged inj
anticipation of the annual grand
lodge convention In Seattle, July
6-9, following the Oregon state
convention in Ashland.
At last night Medford Elks
lodge meeting it was announced
that Thursday night a big salmon
bako would be In -order at the
Elks temple, p re pared by P. C.
Bighorn, chef do luxe.
