When u doctor comes at you
like that, you just can't think ot"
a s;i liable rejoinder to his com
ment that this peculiar . impair
ment In the capillary circulation
in the affected tiwmea probably
explains the sensitiveness of nr
thritic; patients to chances of
weather and changes of clothing
and all that.
Oh, well, have it your own way.
Dr. Pemberton draws no disagree
able Inferences from this scien
tific observation, except to sug
gest that It apparently accounts
for the lowered metabolic fate
shown by most arthritis patients.
It is In "the capillary bed or field
that metabolism Is chiefly carried
on. Rut the distinguished arthri
tis sneclallst does suggest that the
competent physician must regard I
arthritis an something more com
plicated than a mere focal Infec
tion: having found and disposed
of the primary focus of Infec
tion the physician has done only
part of his work; he can pro
mote the patient's comfort or
perhaps complete recovery mate
rially by other therapeutic meas-ui-ps,
such as massage, making,
diathermy, sun bat by or ultra
violet light, hydrotherapy.
Here 1 would add to my apol
ogy to our arthritis readers my
own suggestion lhat too much
dodging of weather, too much
riddling, in my opinion, tends
lo decrease the capillary circula
tion and lower the metabolism in
the earlier stages of arthritis.
1 do not believe, and I don't
think Dr. Pemberton believes,
that exposure to cold, wet and
the like is a cause of arthritis,
however much dbtcomfort such
exposure may give one with the
disease.

the daily press will render the

This will also help to offset

with her celluloid ducks and fishes.
When, some 20 minutes later, her
mother discovered her dripping wet

her for her carelessness..
Both chi(di'n were punished for
something which was certainly not
I their fault. Ono cannot expect a
four-year old to restrain his de.sire
to paint simply because he has no
paper on which to do it. The im

a child play with water wo must
expect her to get wot unless we
give her a rubber apron.
Unless mothers exercise foresight
nnd plahfulnciss, children will nl
ways get into mischief. It is the
parent's responsibility, not the
child's to see that his interests do
not get him into trouble.
Children need such things as
clay, paints, crayons, hammer nnd
water to carry out their play ideas.
If the use of thee materials spreads
destruction nnd makes extra work
