times a day. so by clever concocting, they
made o cate cut It wedge-shaped, and
called it "Pie" thus satisfying everyone.
Martha Washington Pie
H cup shortening XA cup milk
1 cup sugar 1 tsp. vanilla
S eggs li cup chopped
1H cups flour nuts
2 tsp. baking- Yi pt- whipping
powder cream
14 tsp. salt Citron
Candied cherries
Cream shortening and suqar together.
Add eggs beaten until light. Sift Hour,
baking-powder and salt together, add
alternately with milk to first mixture. Beat
thoroughly, add vanilla and nuts. Bake in
two layers, in a hot oven (375 to 400
degrees f.) When cool put whipped
cream, sweetened and flavored, between
layers and on top. Decorate with candied
cherries and citron cut in thin strips, if
desired.
