Close reef ins of tho financial j
sails of Jack-son county for the'
coming year w.U be the t:;jsk of the i
county hud tret committee within j
the next ton days. Funds on hand,
u to the close of business Decent- !
f ber 31, showed a deficiency now
estimated nt $7ii.uiM, and may
roach the fiuo.udl) murk.
The deficiency is attributed to
two causes falling off in reeipt
from forest land rentals, anil ?k
growing delinquent lax list. In
HtL'ft, the county received 3:mup)
from the govern incut, for titular
sales, rentals, stumpatfe. and other
fees. Last year it dwindled to
uhotit omi. Thus depression in
the national lumber situation Is re
flected locally. The remainder
due to delinquent taxes.
As soon as all balances are sub
mitted, the county budget commit
tee will convene and make read
justments, so the budget will con
form to the finances.
This will probably mean the re
duction of allowances down the
line, with the exception of the ap
propriations for schools, which ow
ing to the increase in population,
brought a heavy increase in the
nppropiiation. A levy of $10 is
m a d e u n dor tho O rogo n !a w f o r
each student.
The 131 budget is up to the
provisions of the 6 per cent limita
tion law, and "it will take a lot of
heavy Hcratohini; to keep within
our mean;,' according to County
Judge Alex Sparrow.
The county head is opposed to
tho use- of the county to tide over
the budget, "as It simply means
n.ortgagfng the future."
The budget committee, V. O. N.
Smith, Ashland, chairman, will
meet this week lo consider the fin
ancial problems.

Tlic robust oat, born of the sun and
the soil, contains fat, mineral salts,
protein, phosphorus, sugar and
starch. Vital elements for the human
body... priceless. The more you know
about oats the more you realize they
are the kindly little friends of all
mankind. We, the sponsors of H-O
Oatmeal, respect the oat so highly
that we give it the most exacting
preparation known to the modern
civilized world.
The exclusive H-O pan-roasting pro
cess brings out the exquisite flavor
of the oats to an extent that makes
H-O startlhigly different from or
dinary oatmeal, with its usual pale,
neutral tnstc and "pasty" consist'

satisfying breakfast to the palate as
