and attractive, wag held today as
a witness in tho slaying of Ktnphen
K. Hweoney, 22year-old ex-convict,
whose body was discovered yester
day by aviators flying over the
Aviation Country club.
Police said the girl, an unem
ployed telephone operator, was the
sweetheart of Hweoney and was
with him early yestorduy.
Hue told poke Hweeney took her
to a movie Haturday night and
then to a night club on Ujwor Man
hattan. At the club, she said, they!
were Joined by two men whose I
names she did not remember.
Police Bald the girl wua hazy on
details such as the name of the
theatre or the picture.

H datives of Hob Ika. trapper re
cently shot to death In Uttld Rock
canyon,, north of here, have ex
pressed dissatisfaction with the le
gal procedure whereby Joseph
tStunely, Ika's slayer, was permit
ted to plead guilty to manslaughter.
These relatives have announced
they will engage counsel nnd in
vestigate the procedure. Thoy
pointed out that Ika not only was
slain but that his slayer stamped
him In the face with hobnailed
boo til.
It was disclosed Ika was in real
ity Cecil Klcher, Fon of Henry
Kicher of Pulermo. His father was
a cousin of the late John Klcher,
pioneer horseman, and his mother
was a sister of James Vaughan of
Orovlllc. He had a bister in south
ern Oregon.

commission has announced open
competitive examinations for tho
positions of assistant radio ope
rator (airways) with a salary of
$1800 to $2500 a year: nnd junior
radio operator (airways) with
salary of $1620 to $1920.
The dopurtmcnt of commerce
wishes men for these positions,
between the ages of 18 and 40.
Competitors will not he required
to report for examination at any
place, but will be rated on their
training, experience, and fitness,
on a scale of 100, puch ratings
being based upon competitor's
sworn statements in their appli
cations and upon corroborutlvc
evidence.

Flo Irwin, for 52 years an actress,
has answered her final cue.
' Death came yesterday to Miss
Irwin, who with her sister May
wus known to theater audiences of
three nations as early as the 80's

The 71 -year old woman had
lived In quiet retirement in a mod
est home here for three years.

Police, surgeons said she died of
a heart attack, brought on by ex
citement incident to her sister's

The Irwin sisters were born in
Whitley, Ontario, Canada, the
daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Campbell. They made their first
appearance in Buffalo, N. Y., in
