today as ho was about to leave
for New York with Mrs. Lind
bergh, but he extinguished the
flames unaided,.
Colonel Lindbergh was not In
the plane, the motor of which
was being warmed up preparatory
to the take-off. He run back to
the cockpit, snatched the firo ex
tinguisher, opened the cowl cov
ering and began squirting the
chemical into the motor.
National guardsmen rushed to
his assistance. During the excite,
mcut Mrs. Lindbergh sat quietly
in the cockpit.
I -iter workmen made sure the
fire was out by briiiKug up ap
paratus of the guardsmen and giv
ing the motor u thorough dose, of

Mrs. Lindbergh was In the cock
