sioner Aitchison is known tho best.
Down at tho interstate com
merce commission on Pennsylvania
avenue he has built up a mole
chorus of eomo 40 voices which
is recognized as one of the best
organizations of Its kind in Wash
ington. It La called the interstate
commerce male chorus and is com
posed of examiners and other em
ploye" fo the commission.
Altchison got tho idea for this
chorus back in 1919. Two marble
tablets in memory of those in the
commission who lost their ifves in
the world war -were to be dedi
cated. A call was sent out In the
commission for all who could sing
to be present.
So impressed was AitchUion with
the voices ho heard on that day
that he determined to organize his
chorus.
No Women Now
At first women were Included,
but it was soon made into an all
male organization.
The interstate commerce male
chorus, under the personal direc
tion of Commissioner Aitchison, is
now In Its tenth season. Twenty
eight formal concerts have been
given since It was started.
President and Mrs. Cbolidge had
them at the White House to sing.
Congress invited them to fsing at
the memorial services this year to
its dead. They have been heard in
concert at the Library of Con
gress. They have sung in Wash
ington, Philadelphia, New York
and Baltimore.
Through Aitchlson's friendship
with Fra Waedenschwciler, a
Franciscan monk living in Oregon,
tho chorus has virtually Its own
composer. "I2cce Quam Bonum."
a majestic piece of music com
posed by him. Is the hymn with
which the chorus closes all its con
certs. The commissioner's own compo
sitions also aro sung by the
chorus.
