Bishop Manning, appeared In West
Side court today and obtained a
continuance until December 12 of a
charge of disorderly conduct. .
He pleaded not guilty and told
Magistrate Dryer he had several
speaking engagements which would

the close of a sermon In which he
denounced IJndsey's stand on com
panionate marriage. Lindsey hop
ped onto the reporters' table in
front of the pulpit and demanded
a chance to he, heard.
"Bishop Manning." he cried,
"you have falsely represented me.
If this is nut a house of justice
it f not a house of God, and in
justice I ak for fivo minutes to
answer your unfair attack."
Turmoil Results.
The congregation was thrown
Into turmoil. Two ushers pulled
IJndscy from the table. Scores of
parishioners rushed forward
through the aisles. The former
judge was punched and kicked.
Several detectives broke into the
struggling maw anil propelled the
victim' toward a side door. The
bishop continued -his prayer' with
i his back to the scene.

"He had no right to lie about mo.
This is neither a house of justice
nor a house of Ciod."
Then the church rang" with ex

Threats Voiced.
While the police were putting

had entered the edifice unnoticed

Formally Charged.
The b.shop refused to make n
complaint after Llndsey reached
the station house, but a police
man did so and the prisoner was
released on his own recognizance.

today feared the appearance hero
of the mysterious epidemic of
death which last week spread
through the Aieuse valley in Bel
gium under cloak of a heavy fog,
and took the lives of 07 humans
and killed a great number of live
stock. Near Orosmount, Yorkshire, ten
cattle died yesterday on one farm
of a mysterious malady of w'hieh
the symptoms, veterinarians Bald,
were much like those of the vic
tims of the Belgian fog. Like Bel
gium, southern England has suf
fered from the intense fog condi
tions of the past few days.

suffering from the strange malady,
and was told by them that as soon
as they entered the fog they were
aware of an intense prickling sen
sation in their throats, followed by
nausea.

A motion was filed In the circuit
court this morning by K. M. Wil
son, through hiH attorney, Porter
J. N'eff, asking that Karl Ji. Fehl,
who is contesting the election of

Oregon election laws, to file a
bond to cover the cost of the re
count and election contest.
The Oregon election law re

plosion of a powerful bomb, con
tained in s an innocent looking
packngn opened by !i boy to satisfy
his Yuletide curiosity, caused the
death early today of Tony May,
professional bondsman and money
lender, ono time known as the
"millionaire newsboy. ' Today was
the H4th anniversary of May's
birth and It was generally sup
posed he believed the package was
a birthday present.
May died in a hospital to which
hia 15 year obi son Kugcne, who
opened tho package, was also
taken, severely Injured by the blast
which. wrecked the May apartment
yesterday. He suffered a score of
wounds about his back and head.
Windows throughout the entire 40
apartment building, situated in
Lincoln avenue, were shattered.
Police were working nn two
theories. One was that May, an
Italian immigrant who worked his
way up from a newsboy's start,
may have been the victim of ex
tortionists. The other was based
on his money lending business.
During a few moments of con
sciousness he gave the police the
name of a man whoso wages bo
had guruishced to collect n loan
and who was reported to have
made threats.
